There’s no question that cornerback Dunta Robinson has been a free agent bust for the Atlanta Falcons.  Since he was brought in during the 2010 offseason,  he’s been anything but a shutdown corner. I’m sure the Falcons would love to cut bait and move on from Robinson,  but the problem is that Robinson will make a base salary of $6 million for the 2012 season.  Of the $6 million he’s set to make, $5 million of it is guaranteed.  If you add in his signing bonus pro-ration,  so it would cost the Falcons $7.75 million to keep him and $6.75 million to cut him. In the end it’s not worth it to cut Robinson.  They would be just throwing away money if they moved on from him,  so for now he’s just an overpaid cornerback.

Free Agent Focus: Wide Receiver

Harry Douglas The Falcons will have to make a decision on whether to keep or let Harry Douglas go in free agency. And you could make the case for either happening. He’ll make the occasional play down the field, but his bread and butter is...

Nolan's philosphy could signal change for Falcons

The Falcons have nine free agents on defense and five of them are starters, as head coach Mike Smith considers the nickel back a starter. The most pressing are defensive...

Playoffs: For Falcons, Getting There is Half the Problem

The Atlanta Falcons are not a team with a rich playoff history. As a matter of fact, up until this year the team had never made the playoffs in consecutive years but in past seasons when the Falcons did make the playoffs they usually made it count. That didn’t occur very often though. The Falcons have only been to the playoffs eight times since the strike-shortened season of 1982...
