FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, who led the Falcons in tackles prior to getting injured, said that he would practice on Wednesday, the first time he has done so since injuring his ankle on Oct. 28 a good indication that Weatherspoon will play for the first time in four weeks on Sunday. Falcons head coach Mike Smith said on Monday that he was optimistic about getting back some of the teams injured players for this weekends game at Tampa Bay. Smith did not name any players but Weatherspoon, who has missed the last three games, is the only starter among the group. Before addressing the media in the teams open locker room session prior to practice, Weatherspoon pulled on a garish yellow Dickies coverall suit that he said tight end Tony Gonzalez had bought for him. Weatherspoon called it his coming back to work suit. Im feeling pretty good, Weatherspoon said. Weatherspoon said he was not close to playing on Sunday against Arizona but said he feels a lot better this week. Its tough, he said of missing the three games. We won two of those games. We can take that as a positive. Weatherspoons spot in the starting lineup had been taken by veteran Mike Peterson, 36, and by first-year starter Akeem Dent in the nickel package. Modestly, Weatherspoon would only say the Falcons defense missed his energy while he was gone, but safety William Moore was more blunt. Hes a big upgrade to the defense, hes a leader of the defense and its good to have him back, Moore said.

He missed the last three games with a right ankle injury. “This is just my coming back to work suit,” he said.“That’s all that it is. Falcons' Ryan: Still confident after interceptions

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan hopes he never has to endure another five-interception game. It sounds simple, but Ryan breaks down last week's narrow victory over Arizona as a learning experience that could have ended much worse. Despite his career-high five picks, Ryan still helped the Falcons (9-1) squeak past the Cardinals to maintain a three-game lead over second...

Julio Jones Questionable For Week 12

Falcons receiver Julio Jones is questionable for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay with a right ankle injury. Jones only played in about half of Atlanta's 73 offensive plays last week and very few in the fourth quarter after hobbling to the sideline.Fantasy Spin:Jones' fantasy owners would certainly love him to be healthy and facing the Buccaneers' vulnerable pass defense...

Warning: The 2012 Buccaneers are for real

There are still six games remaining in the 2012 NFL season but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are already turning doubters into believers. This past offseason, which was arguably one of the best the Bucs have had in history, has proven to pay off just 10 games into the season. But let’s step back for a moment. The new coaching staff, free agent acquisitions, and draft picks the team...

Falcons Released DE Ray Edwards For Refusing To Join The Team Following Week 10′s Loss

The Falcons made a surprising decision to release DE Ray Edwards early last week. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported on Sunday that the decision to release Edwards had to do more to with his reluctance to join a “team gathering” following Week 10′s loss to the Saints, per Mark Sessler of NFL.com. Falcons head coach Mike Smith reportedly asked the team to gather in the...

ZB Notebook 11-20-12

I’m not going to say the Atlanta Falcons are a bad team. At 9-1 they deserve more respect than that, but they may be the least convincing 9-1 team I’ve seen in awhile. The offense remains explosive, but the team lost five picks to Arizona at home last weekend in a game that shouldn’t have been as close as four points. The run game is nonexistent and now news has leaked that...
