PLAYERS: Rex Ryan
TEAMS: New York Jets
The last several months, Rex Ryan has taken a lot of crap from media and the fans. Rightfully so. You cannot flap your gums as much as Rex did in his first few years, bragging and boasting your way to two AFC Title game appearances, and then not have to also answer for the failures of your football team, especially when you then decide to zip your lip. He is the captain of the ship, and no matter what, the buck always stops with the head coach. That’s just the reality of it. He especially deserves the pressure and scrutiny of hand-picking Mark Sanchez to be his first mate along the way. He welcomed him aboard in hist first year as head coach when the team drafted him and made him the starter, immediately. But even though he has always been the biggest supporter of the engineer of the butt-fumble, and though he deserves a lot of criticism for the development or the lack thereof the Jets players in the past couple of seasons, he doesn’t deserve the latest scourge he has received. Rex Ryan’s son is playing football for the Clemson Tigers. He is a freshman walk-on, and Rex […]

Rex Ryan has good reason to stay noncommittal about Jets' QB situation

I’m willing to cut Rex Ryan at least a little bit of slack this year. After all, he’s being put into a situation that few head coaches could succeed with. The Jets’ current problems are many. They’re without offensive weapons, their team has become a lightning rod for negative attention, but biggest of all is the Jets’ lack of a starting quarterback. Geno Smith will...

Rex Ryan Went to See His Kid Play at Clemson, So Media Skiptized the Story

Everything that is wrong with the media outrage over Rex Ryan going to see his son playing at Clemson can be summed up in one sentence written by Mr. You Can’t Boo New York Daily News writer Manish Mehta. By all accounts, Ryan has been a great dad, but sometimes the job must take precedence. Story should be over right there. Ryan won’t be able to attend any of his son’s games...

The Daily News vendetta against Rex Ryan is reaching stupid levels

The feud between the New York Daily News and Jets head coach Rex Ryan has been one of the more entertaining subplots of the preseason, adding a new layer of absurdity on top of one of the biggest circus acts in sports.  Combative press conferences, newspaper front pages, state Governors weighing in, and even the ridiculous notion put forth by NYDN sportswriter Manish Mehta of firing...

Geno Smith may be the Jets starting quarterback against Darrelle Revis and the Bucs but there is no guarantee he’ll be starting anything beyond that.
