Start ‘em & Sit ‘em Week 1

The Seattle Seahawks kick off their 2012 campaign on Sunday with a trip to the desert to take on the Arizona Cardinals. Who can you trust as Fantasy starters on the Hawks and who could surprise for your Fantasy squad this week?

Let’s take a look at each position and project some numbers for each position in Week 1. I’ll be back each and every week to give you my projections, so check back weekly.

LET’S GO SEAHAWKS!

Seahawks Fantasy Forecast + Stats QB Russell Wilson

Passing: 225 yards, 1 TD Rushing: 30 yards

Wilson looked good in the preseason and now has a chance to carry that success into the regular season against an OK defense in Arizona. He is going to be efficient rather than over-effective.

After all Sunday is his first ever NFL start. He will get his yards through the air and on the ground but good Fantasy numbers are not likely.

When Seattle scores it will likely be the work of Marshawn Lynch.

Sit!

RB Marshawn Lynch

Rushing: 100, 1 TD Receiving: 2-20

Lynch is battling some back issues at the moment but until we hear otherwise he looks good to go as your RB1. Although he hasn’t traditionally done all that well against Arizona he will be the bell cow for this offense.

He will get his touches for sure and in turn he will get his yards. 100 yards and a TD is a safe bet as Lynch will see 25 touches at least.

Start!

RB Robert Turbin

Rushing: 20, 0 TD Receiving: 0-0

Turns into an intriguing sleeper this week if Lynch is limited with the back. If Lynch plays you can only expect 20 or so yards but if Lynch is forced to sit expect 80 yards and possibly a TD from Robert Turbin.

Those numbers would make him an OK flex.

Sit!

WR Sidney Rice

Receiving: 6-75, 1 TD

Is Seattle’s top receiving threat clearly and he did have 8 catches for 109 yards and a TD in Week 3 versus this team last year. He should have an OK game here but remember he is catching passes from a rookie QB.

When Seattle scores it will likely be the work of Marshawn Lynch in Week 1 vs. Arizona. (You know he’ll play!)

I projected good numbers for Sidney Rice – good enough to consider him a decent WR3 this week.

Start! (Flex)

WR Braylon Edwards

Receiving: 4-50

Is a veteran guy that with decent possession receiver potential. He may be a good security blanket for the rookie and post OK numbers. For fantasy purposes he is not reliable enough quite yet. Sorry Braylon.

Prove it to me!

WR Doug Baldwin

Receiving: 3-40

Should see more time because of Golden Tate‘s injury but he isn’t likely to have any Fantasy impact. He didn’t play in the preseason and we have no idea what type of chemistry him and Wilson have. (Wait and see)

Sit!

TE Zach Miller

Receiving: 3-30

Is the main pass catching threat at Tight End now that Kellen Winslow has been released. That said, he wasn’t a factor last year and until we see different this year he is not usable in Fantasy. No folks, don’t get cute and start McCoy or Moore.

Sit!

K Steve Hauschka

FG: 3/3 XP: 2/2 Steady Steve.

Start!

DEF Defense / ST

2 sacks, 1 Forced Fumble, 1 Interception

The Hawks have been solid throughout the preseason on defense and have furthered their reputation as a top unit.

They should have pretty good times against the Cardinals this week and are easily in the top 10 in most people’s rankings this week.

They are startable indeed and could produce quality fantasy numbers for you this week. I’ve seen them ranked as high as a TOP 5 unit.

So start them with ZERO negative thoughts.

MUST START!
