Fantasy Football News - Mike Tomlin, during his Tuesday press conference, named Jonathan Dwyer the starting running back for the Steelers in week 13 versus the Baltimore Ravens. FFLockerRoom Take - That is great news for Dwyer owners who were holding out hope that the cream would rise to the top. Dwyer has been the most effective running back for the Steelers all year. His numbers show it and thankfully Tomlin has made a decision early in the week. The unfortunate part is that Mendenhall and Redman are standing over Dwyer’s shoulder just waiting for him to falter. And falter he might. Personally, I like Dwyer the best, have all season. In his only two starts this year, all Dwyer did was run over 100 yards in back-to-back games. He was the first back to do so for the Steelers since “Fast” Willie Parker. This week the Steelers go on the road and travel into Baltimore to a defense that is starting to hit its stride. And the Ravens are a different team at home, so be cautious plugging h...

Rashard Mendenhall demoted, Jonathan Dwyer now the starter in Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made Jonathan Dwyer their new starting running back and have demoted Rashard Mendenhall to third string.  Isaac Redman will back up Dwyer. There’s no doubt though that Dwyer has been the Steelers’ best back this season, which is why he deserves to be their starter.   var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script...

Dwyer Expected To Start Week 13?

Steelers running back Jonathan Dwyer is expected to be named the starter for Week 13, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.Fantasy Spin:The muddled Pittsburgh backfield contains three backs each capable of rushing for 100 yards if given the full workload. As long as all three get rushing attempts none will be fantasy worthy.

Steelers' Dwyer named Sunday starter

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jonathan Dwyer will start at the position Sunday in Baltimore, head coach Mike Tomlin announced. Tomlin cited consistency and health as reasons that he chose Dwyer. "He's been consistently the most productive guy," Tomlin told reporters. "I think we have a large enough body of work to be able to identify that at this point....

Pittsburgh Steelers and the number 7

The number seven has much significance in the city of Pittsburgh. There are many connections, large and small, good and bad, obvious and not-so-obvious. Regardless of their nature, all these connections are pointed at the most important seven, Super Bowl Championship No. 7. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger wears number seven. The team misses him, as they are win less since his injury...

"You know, Mike was frustrated on Sunday and rightfully so," said Tomlin. "He is not producing in the manner he would like to or we would like him to. It’s a function...

Tomlin in a No-Win Situation This Week

If Mike Tomlin were a Major League Baseball player he’d be in a slump of epic proportions. He’s not of course but his decision-making of late has been anything less than a home run let alone a base hit. From benching every running back that fumbled the football to his odd decisions to go for long field goals, call for fake field goals and go on fourth down at mid-field, Tomlin...

Perhaps Tomlin should just draw straws at Running Back this week

There were so many things that went wrong for the Steelers, in the week 12 loss to the Browns, not the least of which was the 6 fumbles (4 of them lost) by the running backs. No sense going back and reliving the 3 interceptions by Charlie Batch and the final fumble on the last drive of the game; but hey, who’s counting? For the last month or so Mike Tomlin has preached about going...

Fantasy Focus: Pittsburgh Steelers Players for Week 13

Week 13 of the 2012 NFL season looks like a straight-up disaster with regards to the relevancy of Pittsburgh Steelers players to the fortunes of millions of fantasy football players. There are, obviously, two pretty major red flags that stand-out against Steelers players that are limiting their attractiveness as fantasy football options. Red Flag #1: Ben’s Status is in Doubt Ben...

Ben Roethlisberger Still Unlikely To Be Ready To Play Against Ravens

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday during his press conference that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw on Monday and that the door was still open for him to play Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. While that sounds like a very optimistic outlook, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported via Twitter on Tuesday after Tomlin talked to the media that...

Marcus Gilbert Might Need Ankle Surgery, David DeCastro Healthy Enough To Proceed

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was asked on Tuesday during his press conference about the Monday decision to place second-year tackle Marcus Gilbert on the injured reserve list and activation of rookie guard David DeCastro from the designated to return injured reserve list. According to Tomlin, Gilbert never improved since injuring an ankle tendon in the loss to the...

Status of Big Ben still up in the air, but will wear reinforced shoulder pads

Steelers QB Big Ben Roethlisberger spoke to the media on Thursday and updated his status for Sunday’s game in Baltimore. He didn’t box himself in one way or the other, but did leave the door open just as Mike Tomlin mentioned earlier this week. “Yeah, there’s always a chance. We’ll go out and re-evaluate it again today. See how it feels after today. I can play through...
