The Pittsburgh Steelers running game could be getting some help very soon. The Steelers, currently ranked 30th in the NFL with their ground game, are expecting the return of RB Rashard Mendenhall for Week Five. Mendenhall has been recovering from ACL surgery and should be back in the Pittsburgh lineup after the team’s bye week. He was a full participant in the Steelers practice on Wednesday. The Steelers can use some help right now in the running game. Without Mendenhall in the lineup, the Steelers are averaging just 70 yards per game on the ground. Neither Jonathan Dwyer nor Isaac Redman have stepped up to fill the void created by Mendenhall’s absence. Dwyer has just 71 yards rushing with a long of 11 yards and Redman has just 45 yards on 23 carries so far this season. Fantasy owners should be wary of adding Mendenhall to their lineups. Typically, running backs that are coming off ACL surgery (not named Adrian Peterson) have issues making cuts and seem to lose some burst. Fantasy i...

Steelers' Harrison, Polamalu still hurting, Tomlin unsure if they’ll play in Oakland

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin isn’t sure if either James Harrison (knee) or Troy Polamalu (calf) will take the field in Oakland, but is willing to let them take the field without practicing, if they’re ready that is. It will sort of go against a long-standing rule of his; traditionally he likes his players to get at least one day of practice during the week before...

Injured Steelers RB Mendenhall nearing return

The Steelers' struggling running game could get a shot in the arm on Sunday in Oakland. Starting running back Rashard Mendenhall practiced on Wednesday and is inching closer to returning from right knee surgery. Mendenhall hasn't played since tearing the ACL in his knee in last year's regular season finale in Cleveland. He underwent surgery in January and has seen his...

Pittsburgh Steelers could be without five key contributors against the Oakland Raiders

Somewhat lost in the Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1) 27-10 victory over the New York Jets was the fact that the team played without the combination of linebacker James Harrison (knee) and safety Troy Polamalu (calf) for the first time in their career. Yes, the players have missed games in the past, but that marked the first time both were out on the same day.Unfortunately, that may be...

Rashard Mendenhall will likely return by week 5

According to Josh Katzowitz of, Jason La Canfora has reported that Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall likely won’t make his 2012 debut until week five. The good news is that Mendenhall has been practicing.  It looks like the Steelers chose to keep him on the roster instead of placing him on the PUP list so they could have him practice.  This gives him time...

NFL picks Week 3: Pick 3 against the spread

The NFL schedule makers should be applauded for the effort they put into the 2012 season. Week 3 has a number of exciting matchup’s which has left most of us scratching our heads as to who could win. In many situations the result could go either way and because of that we see 11 of the 16 NFL games underneath 3.5 points. Unless you feel strongly on one side or the other, taking...

Pittsburgh Steelers: 2012 Week 3 NFL Power Rankings (#6)

Last week: 6 (+0) Record: 1-1 Home sweet home for the Steelers. It looks like their home/road disparity has carried over from last season. This team was -22 on the road last year and +120 at home last year. The Raiders get a chance to right the ship on the road this week as they go to Oakland before an early bye week 4. The Steelers hope to get James Harrison and Troy Polamalu back...

The play in question happened on 3rd down with 13:51 left in the first half. Sanchez rolled out to the right side and appeared at first as if he was going to try to run with the ball...

Troy Polamalu likely out this week as well

According to Jason La Canfora, via Josh Katzowitz of CBS Sports, Steelers safety Troy Polamalu will likely once again be out this week with a calf injury, along with teammate James Harrison. The good news is that the Steelers are playing a woeful Raiders team this week.

Steelers-Raiders Preview

The banged-up Pittsburgh Steelers had several concerns after losing their season opener, but they responded with a resounding victory in Week 2. It seems like their problems pale in comparison with the Oakland Raiders' woes. The Raiders try again Sunday for their first win under coach Dennis Allen, but it will be a tough task with a potentially healthier Pittsburgh club coming...
