The Tampa Bay Buccaneers returned home to the Bay area with their collective tails between their legs after suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of the New York Jets. Unable to hold a lead with 34 seconds remaining, penalties which plagued the game, played a significant role in the outcome and eventual loss. The Buccaneers got some intriguing news on Monday, as the team announced that former University of Florida running back and track star, Jeff Demps, will be joining the team, as early as this week. Demps was acquired by the Buccaneers as a part of the trade with the New England Patriots which sent RB LeGarrette Blount north in exchange for a seventh round draft pick and the rights to Demps. The Patriots were not interested in allowing the speedy Demps to explore his track career while being a member of the team, but the Buccaneers obviously were. Demps was on the Patriots IR list last season after inking a three-year deal. According to the Tampa Bay Times, Demps is reporti...

Lavonte David's late hit on Geno Smith sets up Jets game-winning FG (GIF)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David committed a critical error in the final seconds of Sunday's season opener against the New York Jets that cost his team a victory. With seven seconds left and the Bucs holding a 17-15 lead, Jets QB Geno Smith was running out of bounds just past midfield. However, as Smith stepped out of bounds, David unnecessarily pushed him down...

Josh Freeman running out of chances with Tampa Bay Buccaneers

I’ve always said that Josh Freeman is not a true NFL QB1. At least not for a real team. If Jay Cutler is a “top 15 NFL QB” like Boomer Esiason said, than Tampa Bay Buccaneers signal caller Josh Freeman is a “top 30″ quarterbacking talent. Today, he faced the train wreck that is the New York Jets, and turned in a 67.9 passer rating and 22.5 QBR stinker. Facing a less than...

LB Lavonte David, Buccaneers move past late-game mistake

TAMPA, Fla. -- The day after, no Tampa Bay Buccaneers defender worried about linebacker Lavonte David's frame of mind. They had witnessed his reaction to one of the opening week's most inexplicable penalties -- "He was definitely upset, and you could see that on him," linebacker Jonathan Casillas said but there was no concern about how the second-year player would...

Fans can visit 'Revis Island, Fla.' on Thursday only

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis will have a Florida city named after him. For one day. The City of Treasure Island, Fla., by special proclamation of Mayor Bob Minning, will change its name to Revis Island, Fla. on Thursday. The city is located about 30 miles southwest of Tampa. "I'm honored and humbled to receive this special honor from the City of Treasure...

WATCH: Bucs LB hands Jets a win with dumb penalty

The New York Jets were expected to be one of the biggest jokes of the NFL season, but they managed to pull out a victory in their first game. They can thank Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David for the assist. David pushed Geno Smith after the Jets quarterback had already stepped out of bounds […]

It's tough ship for Freeman, Bucs

Every professional athlete is supposed to lead to some extent, but no position in sports requires leadership as explicitly as the NFL quarterback. You're orchestrating the offense, calling plays in the huddle, and generally the most visible member of your squad. Before it was co-opted by Gregg Williams, the quote "Kill the head and the body will die" -- or else, "...

Darrelle Reivs will play against his former team

Without much surprise at all,  Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis is healthy and ready to go for today’s game against his former team,  the Jets. Not that it's a surprise, but Bucs CB Darrelle Revis will play Sunday against former Jets team, less than 1 year since he tore ACL. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) September 7, 2013 Revis has been rehabbing from ACL surgery...

David's penalty sinks Bucs in 18-17 loss to Jets

Lavonte David sat on a stool in front of his locker, his head down, trying to make sense of what just happened. A couple of Buccaneers teammates came over and patted the linebacker on the back. None of it did anything to make his huge mistake go away. Nick Folk kicked a 48-yard field goal with 2 seconds remaining after David's personal foul on Geno Smith following a big run...

Treasure Island, Fla., Mayor Will Rename City ‘Revis Island’ to Celebrate Buccaneers’ First Home Game

The mayor of one Florida beach city seems to be very excited about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ acquisition of cornerback Darrelle Revis. Bob Minning, the mayor of Treasure Island, Fla,. made a special proclamation Tuesday announcing that on Thursday, Sept. 12 his city will be renamed Revis Island, Fla. for one day. The name change will be part of a special ceremony taking place...

Redskins safety takes out Mike Shanahan and referee (Video)

Washington Redskins safety Bacarri Rambo accidentally took out an NFL referee on the sidelines, along with Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan and another assistant, during Monday night's game at FedEx Field. Rambo lost his balance while pushing Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick out of bounds near the Redskins sideline. Rambo couldn't stop his momentum and ran...

Darrelle Revis active, expected to start for Bucs vs. Jets

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis is active and expected to start against his former team, playing for the first time since injuring his knee while with the New York Jets nearly a year ago. Revis, who played six seasons with the Jets, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee at Miami last September in Week 3. He hasn't played...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New York Jets: Odds, spread, over/under and television info

getty images The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are headed to New Jersey to play the New York Jets in Week 1. Most are not giving the Jets much of a chance in this one. Tampa Bay is more talented on both sides of the ball and the Jets are starting rookie quarterback Geno Smith under center. Not that Tampa Bay needs any help but former Jets corner Darrell Revis is even giving away the Jets...

Ty Law Rips The Jets, Says They Aren’t Worthy Of Playing Against Darrelle Revis

Darrelle Revis will play his first football game in almost a year when he returns to game action to face his former team in the New York Jets. The buildup for the ball game has been coming ever since the Jets traded Revis to the Buccaneers this spring. Ty Law is a former stud cornerback who had success in the NFL, and he’s also a mentor Revis.  According to ESPN New York, Law...

Lavonte David’s late hit penalty results in Jets game-winning field goal

Lavonte David probably cost the Buccaneers a win. David had a late hit penalty on Jets QB Geno Smith with seven seconds left in the game. The penalty put the Jets in field goal range where kicker Nick Folds drilled a 48-yarder for the 18-17 win.  Oh my. This one will hurt.
