The ten-year veteran tight end out of Kent State struggled early and often despite him being targeted as a solid TE1 option before the season started. What makes last year worrisome is that he played in 15 games after missing a total of 9 the previous two years, yet his statistics by far were much worse than his injury filled seasons. Gates dropped to 49 receptions which is the lowest since his rookie season of 2003. His yardage gained was 538, also the lowest since 2003. And his touchdown production fell to less than a half a TD a game. And yes people, that is right you guessed it, was also his lowest production since being a rookie.
