Pierre Garcon, WR, Washington Redskins
School: Mount Union
FANTASY FOOTBALL ANALYSIS
Pierre Garcon was one of the key acquisitions for the Redskins in 2012 and after a great first game where he caught 4 receptions for 109 yards and a score, it looked like a great call for fantasy owners that took a leap of faith picking him. But then the injury bug bit him and it took half the season just to get him right. Even after he came back late in the season, he still was not 100%. But he was able to play through the pain and did so with great effect.
It seemed he and rookie phenom, Robert Griffin III, had an instant connection. While his stat sheet says he played 10 games in 2012, he really only played 8. He tried to come back from his injury too soon, so I won’t be counting those games when I talk about his numbers. If we discount those games, he totaled an amazing 40 receptions for 589 yards with three touchdowns. Average that over a full season and his numbers look like this: 80 REC, 1,178 YDS, 6 TDS
In a standard league that would have put him at just below James Jones and ahead of Randall Cobb. I know it’s not entirely fair to say, what if, especially in fantasy but Pierre did finish the season on a tear. He also did not require surgery in the offseason so that is a good sign his foot should be good to go at the start of training camp. And with RGIII ahead of schedule, Garcon is on tap for a monster season and top 25 status among WR’s.
Going into 2013 fantasy football drafts, my advice is to target Garcon just after the likes of Cobb and Jones are off the board. He should pay off big in an offense that looked unstoppable last season.
