When I wrote about Quinton Patton prior to the NFL Draft, I cited the fact the 1985 was much like the 2013 Draft. There were plenty of decent receivers, but none that stood out as "must have" talent.Amongst those players was some guy named Jerry Rice. I also stated that I didn't think Patton would immediately become the greatest receiver in NFL history. But being on the San Francisco 49ers could help Patton become an elite receiver in only his first season on the league. As a player who played at Louisiana Tech, a school known for its high-scoring offense and impressive passing game, Patton could find himself in the same situation in the NFL as he was in college. The 49ers boast a nice set of receivers in Anquan Boldin, Michael Crabtree, A.J. Jenkins and Mario Manningham. The team also has one of the best, if not the best, tight ends in the business in Vernon Davis. While Crabtree is out with an Achilles injury, Patton could see playing time early and often. He could be a fantasy football steal if taken in the later rounds and used in a PPR (points per reception) league.According to 49ers.com, Patton knows he has grown since the first time he stepped on the field during rookie camp to the team’s final OTA.“My goal is just to make an impact anyway that I can, no matter what it is,” the 6-foot, 204-pound wideout said. The best thing about being on the 49ers is having someone like Colin Kaepernick slinging the ball around the field. In his third year, he will undoubtedly be the leader of this franchise and help Patton make a smooth transition to the pro game.As reported on NFL.com, “Patton finished his two-year career at Louisiana Tech with 2,594 receiving yards -- for an average of 14.2 yards per catch -- and 24 touchdowns.”That is great productivity in any college conference. And with a pass-happy offense, taking Patton in the mid rounds of your fantasy league would be a great move, even if he sits on the bench until the middle of the season.
