A high school buddy of mine, Ludy, e-mailed asking where was my blog on Brett Favre. I have to admit I've been salivating to write something about the biggest diva in American sports, but I've refrained because I fear it is the most over-reported story in the history of American sports.
I turned on ESPN 2 this morning and Jay Crawford exclaimed that the Favre story was the most compelling in NFL history. If it is, ESPN can be blamed for making the Favre retirement/non-retirement bigger than the death of a pope or the state of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Did any of us need by-the-minute updates of Favre's status? I realize the dog days of summer can be a slow news cycle, but ESPN went to great lengths to manufacture the Favre news cycle. Ed Werder, Chris Mortensen, Rachel Nichols and John Clayton seemed to have constant reports from the Favre camp.
