Torrey Smith is a dangerous receiver, but that doesn't mean he has the credentials to criticize an entire fan base. No one, in fact, has such credentials, and a string of tweets from Smith recently showed us just how much he hates Boston sports. RT @MBalsley If you had to pick a hockey team, who you cheering for tonight Boston or Chicago?...CHI I hate everything about NE except KG — Torrey Smith (@TorreySmithWR) June 23, 2013 I understand that every Fan base has bad fans what I'm saying is NE fans have more than others and think they are better than everyone else — Torrey Smith (@TorreySmithWR) June 23, 2013 As much as I dislike MOST of the fan base I can honestly say that I respect the coaches and ownership — Torrey Smith (@TorreySmithWR) June 23, 2013 The Patriots are not the only team in the NFL with a huge amount of terrible fans. That pretty much describes every fan base. Why? Fans are fickle. When the team is doing well and winning a lot of games, the average fan is far more likely to show team spirit. When things go sour, average fans aren't nearly as likely to show support. When the Colts lost Peyton Manning to unexpected back and neck issues, there was seldom a Colts jersey to be seen outside of hardcore Colts fans. Following their playoff run a season ago, you can expect Colts fans to pull out their old jerseys once again. I haven't heard a lot from Steelers fans lately. That may be because the team missed the playoffs last year. They're still around, but when they don't make the playoffs, they're not quite as vocal. Yes, right now it seems like Patriots fans are loud and obnoxious, but that's primarily because their team has experienced an unusually successful run over the past decade. Something tells me Patriots fans will resemble a completely different fan base once Tom Brady and Bill Belichick decide to hang it up. [follow]
