BY SEAN DONOVANWhile moral victories are always reserved for losers, the Miami Dolphins still have to be pleased with their defensive performance in Sunday's 23-16 loss to the New England Patriots. After all, the Patriots had been scoring at a record 37 points-per-game pace going into the week, yet were held to just two touchdowns. The Dolphins did this by generating pressure on the quarterback while keeping enough players in coverage, not an easy task against an opponent as sharp as Tom Brady.Five minutes into the third quarter, New England had driven into Dolphins territory looking to add to it's 17-10 lead. On third-and-4, the Dolphins lined up with just three down linemen, with defensive end Olivier Vernon standing up behind the nose tackle.Perhaps knowing that Vernon is primarily a pass rusher, Brady seemed to adjust his pass protection to account for him. At the snap of the ball, Vernon dropped back into a short hook zone.Prior to retreating into coverage, Vernon took on...

Chad Johnson Cites ‘Humility,’ Being ‘Quiet’ and ‘Always Open’ as He Begs for NFL Job (Video)

Oh, Chad Johnson, don’t ever change. Ever since the artists formerly known as Ochocinco was released by the Miami Dolphins during the NFL season following an arrest, we haven’t heard all that much from the mercurial former star. What we do know is that Johnson has apparently taken anger management classes and bought a car that cost almost $400,000, but there hasn’t been much...

Matthew Slater Using ‘Next Man Up’ Mantra, Ready to Take Julian Edelman’s Spot in Patriots’ Offense If Needed

FOXBORO, Mass. — Donte Stallworth is back in New England. But he’s not the only veteran with a chance to fill the Patriots’ void at wide receiver. When Julian Edelman went down with a broken foot during Sunday’s win in Miami, Stallworth — who had worked out for the Patriots just a week earlier — was brought in as his replacement.  But the veteran receiver may need some...

New England-bound Texans confident on road

The AFC East-champion New England Patriots are 8-1 against AFC teams this year, and 4-1 at home. But according to Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak, that doesn't faze his team in the least.Kubiak's division-leading squad has secured itself a playoff spot as well, and at 11-1 and unbeaten on the road, they don't seem to care where they play. “It’s a confidence thing...

First-place Texans, Patriots battle

With a two-game lead on the rest of the AFC, the Houston Texans could go a long way toward proving they're the team to beat this week. The New England Patriots, though, certainly aren't ready to concede the conference they've represented in the Super Bowl five times in the last 11 years. These powers each bring a six-game winning streak into Monday night's showdown...
