On May 16-18 the Miami Dolphins Foundation held their annual FinsWeekend charity event. This event is one of the biggest events for the Fins because it brings former players, current players, and the Miami Dolphin’s cheerleaders all into one place. Jason Taylor, Brian Hartline, and Dan Marino are just a few of the recognizable names that participated in this year’s FinsWeekend Golf Tournament. The winner of the tournament was the South Florida Chevy Dealers who beat out a total of 129 golfers to win the tournament.   After the conclusion of the golf tournament, the Hook & Tackle Captain’s Party was held with 1,200 guests. The final day of FinsWeekend hosted the Miami Dolphins Foundation Fishing Tournament in which over 400 anglers, both amateur and professional, competed to catch fish. Cehvy’s Showtime won the event by hauiling in a 22.6 pound fish, which was enough to beat the Tannehill fishing duo! At the end of the day, the participants gathered for the awards ceremony sponsored by Scott Financial and HMY Yacht Sales. The awards ceremony included a live auction where fans could win great prizes and memorabilia including a 21 Foot Contender. Overall the weekend was a huge success raising over $700,000 for local Miami charities. In total, the FinsWeekend event has raised over $3 million and will continue to be held in the upocoming years. As CEO of the Miami Dolphins Mike Dee said, “I don’t think there is anything like this in sports;” this event “gives us the opportunity to provide the financial basis for us to do things in South Florida throughout the year. This puts us in a position to fulfill the commitment we have to make a difference in the community.” The Miami Dolphins play a vital role in the South Florida community, which means that fans can be a part too!
