PLAYERS: Mark Sanchez
TEAMS: New York Jets
The HQ, probably, should have taken the hint when he hung up his Twitter feed... But one of the iconic figures in NFL fandom, the NY Jets Fireman Ed, has decided to retire from being Fireman Ed. At the end of the last nationally-televised Jets game, he had taken off his fireman's helmet and had even decided to leave before the game was officially over. Ed Anzalone, Fireman Ed's real name, had decided that fights among Jets fans had become too commonplace. He had even changed his jersey-wearing allegiance from Bruce Harper's 42 to Mark Sanchez's 6 as a show of support for his quarterback. Here's what we'll remember him for... Actually starting this... New York Jets – Rex Won’t Break Link To Sanchez’s Failures

Anyone who has witnessed the Jets play over their first eleven games can attest to the fact that Mark Sanchez lacks a quality supporting cast and knows that Rex Ryan has tried in vain to talk up, and coach up an undermanned team. If the Jets tank at any point during the final stretch of five winnable games though, Ryan must acknowledge that part of the problem this season has been...

Sanchez likes Jets' playoff chances

There are plenty of negative things to say about Mark Sanchez as a quarterback, but you can't discount his optimism. Just five days after getting shellacked by the New England Patriots, the New York Jets' quarterback is still confident about his team's playoff chances, despite a 4-7 record. Perhaps when things have hit rock bottom there's nowhere to go but up, but...

ESPN commenters create funny > Sanchez meme

Visiting the comments section for ESPN.com articles is generally a masochistic practice that offers very little reward for readers. While not quite as bad as YouTube commenters, ESPN commenters are pretty poor. However, on Sunday, the cosmic forces aligned and led the ESPN.com community to create a pretty funny meme. Much like last year’s ESPN commenter meme against Tim Tebow...

Mark Sanchez Likely To Remain With Jets Beyond This Season

Gary Myers of the New York daily News believes that the Jets will maintain QB Mark Sanchez despite another disappointing season. With Sanchez set to make $8.25 million next year, Myers writes that the solution to the Jets quarterback problem is to give Sanchez real competition for his job. It has become quite clear that the Jets do not view Tim Tebow as an adequate replacement...

Mark Sanchez dishes out food and Jets' chances of playoffs

The last time we saw Mark Sanchez he had his face in Brandon Moore's backside.   On Tuesday, the New York Jets quarterback was finally seen outside a Far Rockaway school — with an even more tragic view — giving back to the needy victims of Hurricane Sandy. Sanchez put aside the Jets embarrassing 49-19 loss to the New England Patriots to help City Harvest donate food...

Moore irked by 'butt fumble' cracks

Jets guard Brandon Moore said that he is bothered by being associated with the now notorious "butt fumble" play where Mark Sanchez fumbled after running into his backside.

Ed Anzalone quitting as ‘Fireman Ed,’ will remain Jets fan

How bad has this season been for the New York Jets? So bad that it convinced Ed Anzalone, aka “Fireman Ed,” to step away from his post as a fan leader for the team. Anzalone has been a Jets fan since 1975 and has been leading a J-E-T-S chant from Section 134 at Jets home games since 1986. However, the drama, negativity, and losing surrounding the team became too much for him...

Worst Play in NFL History?

It might very well have been the worst play in NFL history.  It certainly was the most embarrassing.  Yes, I’m talking about the “Bumble,” the “Poop n’ Score,” the play that singlehandedly swung momentum in the Pats’ favor during their 49-19 drubbing of the Jets on Thanksgiving Eve.  Mark Sanchez dropped back on what appeared to be a handoff, but when he turned to...

Jets Fans Dropping F-Bombs On Players During Halftime Of Thanksgiving Blowout

Each passing day brings more embarassment to the Jets organization. Remember that game? The one where Mark Sanchez ran into his o-lineman’s ass and the Jets got stomped by the Patriots...

Things are so bad for the NY Jets that Fireman Ed has decided to quit as their unofficial mascot

The Jets got dominated by the Patriots 49-19 on Thanksgiving night. And along with losing their seventh game in eleven tries, they also managed to lose their unofficial mascot, “Fireman Ed”. For the second week in a row, Ed Anzalone left a Jets game a halftime because of confrontations with fellow fans. According to Anzalone, fellow Jets fans have been pretty hostile with him...

Ed Anzalone to Stop Attending Jets Games as ‘Fireman Ed’ Due to ‘Confrontations With Other Jets Fans’

Since 1975, Ed Anzalone has attended New York Jets games at the Meadowlands, leading chants and making countless appearances on Jumbotrons and television screens. But, it looks like the world has seen the last of Fireman Ed on their television screens. Anzalone announced in his guest column for Metro New York that he will continue to attend Jets games, but not in his famous getup...
