ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- While Nick Fairley celebrated a sack with his familiar arms-out-to-the-side airplane imitation, Ndamukong Suh took a different approach. Suh, displaying his incredible brute strength, simply threw one arm out and brought down St. Louis Steven Jackson, one of the biggest and strongest running backs in the NFL. These are the types of scenes the Lions need from the defensive line if theyre going to continue to hide their depleted and flawed secondary. The Lions produced four sacks in their opening victory over the Rams, three by defensive tackles -- one each for Fairley, Suh and unsung hero Corey Williams. The D-line totally controlled the line of scrimmage against a beat-up St. Louis offensive front. Not only did the Lions put constant pressure on the quarterback, they also shut down the run game, holding Jackson to 2.5 yards per carry. Its going to have to be that way again Sunday night in San Francisco. The 49ers also have a talented running back in Frank G...

Handshakes or not, new look Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers will always play a good game

As thrilling as the event was for America in a voyeuristic sort of way, I find myself wishing last year's "handshake gate" incident had never happened. It overshadowed everything that was important in an otherwise fantastic football game between the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers. Lost in all the fury and discussion about proper handshake decorum was the...

Young received a personal foul for head-butting St. Louis Rams cornerback Janoris Jenkins on Sunday, and he was benched at the...

Lolo Jones denies she is dating Ndamukong Suh, jokes about Super Bowl

On Thursday, a gossip website reported that Lolo Jones and Lions defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh are dating and that Lolo was a special guest at  Detroit’s season opener against St. Louis. Jones put the rumor to rest during an interview with ESPN Playbook later in the day and showcased some of her trademark witty sarcasm in the process. “We are not currently dating,” Jones...

Lions guard Sims prepared all year for 49ers matchup

ALLEN PARK, Mich. Detroit Lions offensive guard Rob Sims has been pointing to Sundays matchup against San Francisco defensive tackle Justin Smith since the day the NFL schedule was released. It is one of the main reasons why Sims, in his seventh year in the NFL, gained about 15 pounds during the off-season. Sims couldnt handle Smith a year ago in the 49ers' 25-19 victory in...

Nate Burleson: Calvin Johnson better than Randy Moss in prime
