ST. LOUIS (AP) -- St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher says a mistake by the clock operator late in Sunday's last-second loss at Detroit gave the Lions an extra timeout that completely changed how the finish played out. The 40-second time clock started three or four seconds before the game clock resumed after quarterback Sam Bradford slid for a 3-yard gain close to the sideline. Fisher anticipated he could let the clock run to the two-minute warning, but instead had to call timeout with 2:03 to go with the play clock about to expire. The Rams were set to run on third down after the two-minute warning, forcing the Lions to use their final timeout. Instead, Bradford threw an incompletion and Greg Zuerlein kicked a go-ahead 46-yard field goal. The Lions had 1:55 to work with on their final drive. Matthew Stafford's 5-yard pass to Kevin Smith with 10 seconds to go won it.

St. Louis Rams: 2012 Week 2 NFL Power Rankings (#12)

Last week: 12 (+0) Record: 0-1 And here’s the other half of the controversial prediction. On one hand, I nailed the Rams/Lions game. The Rams showed they were a better team than last year on both sides of the ball. On the other hand, my prediction of the Rams in the playoff only makes sense if the 49ers don’t prove me wrong. If Alex Smith improbably becomes a true franchise quarterback...

Rodger Saffold carted off field

Rams left tackle Rodger Saffold was carted off the Edward Jones Dome turf in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions after undergoing what appeared to be a neck injury. Saffold crumpled awkwardly after disengaging from Lions safety John Wendling on a long St. Louis pass. The Rams scored a touchdown on the play to take a 20-13 lead with 9:45 remaining. ...

St. Louis intercepted Stafford three times in the first half - returning one...

Danny Amendola Leads St. Louis in Receiving Week 1

Rams receiver Danny Amendola led the team in Week 1 with five catches and 70 yards receiving.Fantasy Spin:Amendola caught 85 passes in 2010 but he missed all but one game last season with an injury. He'll be relevant all season in PPR leagues since he's Sam Bradford's favorite target.

Rams win 58 minutes against Detroit, but lose the last two

Ultimately, the Rams' upset bid of the Detroit Lions came down to this: a third-down and five play with 2:03 on the clock, just outside the red zone, tied up 20-all. Get the first down, and the Rams can control the clock and have the last shot at putting points on the board. But before we consider what the Rams did on that play, we have to consider everything that brought...

Taking Lions to wire big step forward for Rams

Losing in the final seconds at Detroit could have been another blow to the downtrodden St. Louis Rams and their beat-down fan base. It was actually a huge step forward. The Rams lost for the 66th time in their last 81 games. But it has not dimmed the Rams' newfound competitive fire under first-year coach Jeff Fisher. In 11 of their 14 losses last year, the Rams faced double...
