The St. Louis Rams are struggling through a five-game winless stretch. Coach Jeff Fisher reminded one of the NFL's youngest rosters on Monday that with more consistency, and perhaps a turnover or two, the tide will turn. Also, how easily chances at a victory can slip away. Fisher was critical of some officiating calls in Sunday's 27-13 loss to the New York Jets, notably a holding penalty that nullified rookie Chris Givens' 98-yard kickoff return near the end of the half that would have given the Rams a 14-13 lead. He added that rookie Rodney McLeod, whose technique was fine except for a prolonged tug of the jersey, could have given officials no reason to target him. Fisher said he probably should have given the ball more to Steven Jackson, who averaged 6.2 yards on 13 carries for St. Louis (3-6-1). ---- Online: http://pro32.ap.org/poll and http://twitter.com/AP-NFL

Rams to activate center Scott Wells this week

The St. Louis Rams will activate center Scott Wells, out since the opener with a broken bone in his left foot, with hopes of having him in the lineup this week at Arizona. Wells, among the team's top offseason free agent pickups, is the Rams' ''marquee'' injured reserve player eligible to return in Week 9. He missed the first two preseason games rehabbing...

Rams LB Mario Haggan injures right elbow

St. Louis Rams backup linebacker Mario Haggan injured his right elbow early in the first quarter against the New York Jets and the team said his return was questionable. A Jets player landed on Haggan at the end of a 1-yard carry by backup quarterback Tim Tebow out of the wildcat formation on the third play of the game. After walking off the field, Haggan flung his helmet to the...

Jenkins, Givens back for Rams against Jets

Two St. Louis Rams rookies, cornerback Janoris Jenkins and wide receiver Chris Givens, are active against the New York Jets after getting benched last week. Fullback Brit Miller, also the team's special teams captain, and wide receiver Steve Smith were inactive. Wide receiver Austin Pettis, who missed two days of practice and was limited Friday with a toe injury, was active...

New York Jets defense finds a way to stop Chris Givens streak

One week after being a healthy scratch, Chris Givens started St. Louis’ Week 11 loss to the Jets, making four catches for 19 yards. This week was the first time since Week 3 Givens was held without a 50-yard reception. He nearly popped a big play on a kick return, but had a touchdown called back by a dubious holding penalty. However, Givens was clearly operating as the Rams...

Rams lose a game, and their momentum, vs the Jets

It was easy to look at the good work the Rams offense did against the 49ers, and call it a turning point. Earlier in the week, we outlined six signs of offensive success that the Rams were capable of repeating. Sam Bradford and the offense utterly failed at four of those six factors, and it cost us a win against a very beatable opponent.  Aside from limiting pre-snap penalties...

New York Jets at St. Louis Rams: Hero and Zero of the Game

Rams show progress despite record

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Rams may only win four or five games this year, finish near the bottom of the NFC standings and get another top-10 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Sounds like a bad year, right? Not at all. For a team that won two games last year and just 15 games the previous five seasons, the Rams have shown significant progress under first-year coach Jeff Fisher, whether...

Sam Bradford vs Eli Manning on the franchise quarterback growth curve

As the St Louis Rams' record continues to slide following a heartening 3-2 start to the season, Sam Bradford's progression on the "elite quarterback growth curve" is receiving increasing scrutiny. Whether he has a strong game (275-2-0 versus the 49ers) or a weak one (170-2-1 vs the Jets), unless the Rams win the criticism will always be there. It's just a matter...

Week 11 AFC East game picks: Jets at Rams

Lead writer Nick St. Denis and AFC East Daily contributors Dan Begnoche and Sean Donovan pick the New York Jets' inter-conference contest with the St. Louis Rams. Nick's take: When Jets coach Rex Ryan and Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer shared the field during Schotty's time with the Jets, Rex's defense ran the show. I think that holds true when the...

Amendola Wearing Walking Boot At Rams Practice

He's still recovering from a foot injury he suffered in Week 11's loss to the Jets.Fantasy Spin:Amendola missed practice Wednesday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup with Arizona. Jets 27, Rams 13

ST. LOUIS -- The NFL's most dysfunctional team played like the team its coach insists it can be instead of the one that stumbled to a 3-6 record prior to Sunday. Dominating most of the last three quarters, the New York Jets snapped a three-game losing streak with a methodical 27-13 win over the mistake-prone St. Louis Rams in the Edward Jones Dome. Quarterback Mark Sanchez...
