Steven Jackson entered the season with a franchise record of seven consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. The rumors concerning him being shopped are stemmed from his carrying duties being shared for the first time in his career.
Coach Jeff Fisher squashed the rumors Tuesday insuring all of who his starting running back is for this season.
“The Steven Jackson rumors are rumors,” said Fisher. “He’s our running back and we’re not calling around, nor are we getting calls for the matter. Put that to rest.”
Jackson is ranked 11th in the NFC with 108 carries, producing 403 yards and a touchdown. Rookie running back Daryl Richardson is 12th in the conference with 335 yards and a 5.4-yard average per carry.
Richardson, a seventh-round pick out of Abilene Christian, won the depth chart battle against second-rounder Isaiah Pead back in training camp, and has been sharing the work load with Jackson.
