Now that the Philadelphia Eagles 2011 season is complete the focus outside the NovaCare Complex has shifted from the disastrous season to the slew of questions surrounding the team. One of the more heavily talked about topics is the fate of veteran (CB) Asante Samuel and the likelihood that he played his last down in Midnight Green during the victory over the Miami Dolphins in week 15.
Samuel has two years remaining on his five-year contract worth just over $18 million — $8.4 million in 2012 and $10.4 million in 2013. When you combine Asante’s salary with his age (30), the anticipated return for his services realistically shouldn’t be set any higher than a third round pick.
To be respectful of Samuel’s likely departure, the Eagles front office should find some teams with sincere interest in acquiring Asante and then allow him to choose which team he wants to play for.
