Darrelle Revis made an impact on the field for the Bucs Sunday. He is also making an impact to a Florida city mayor to change his city’s name from Treasure Island to ‘Revis Island.’ Mayor Bob Mining has proclaimed that the Pinellas County beach town will officially change its name to “Revis Island, Florida,” a reference to the moniker Revis picked up as perhaps the best cornerback in the NFL in recent years. He was traded to the Bucs this offseason from the New York Jets. In a statement, Mining joked that Treasure Island beachgoers normally have to wear sunscreen, but on Revis Island “you don’t need any sunscreen because … you’re always covered.” Thursday’s special ceremony honors the Bucs in advance of this weekend’s home opener. The story, from the Tampa Tribune, also notes that team reps, cheerleaders, and their mascot will be on hand. No word on if Revis himself will be there. Doubtful if the team is practicing at the same time.
