Foles Should Seek Out Tom Brady

Tom Brady should be Foles model The NFL is all about throwing the football and Eagles head coach, Andy Reid is their leading ambassador. With this being a quarterback-driven league, a team needs one who is a smart, decisive, leader of men. The Eagles may have one in Nick Foles, but after watching Monday night’s Patriots blowout over the Texans, Tom Brady is who Foles should aspire. Brady’s accomplishments may be more than any up and coming quarterback can match, but Foles physically is more Brady-like than any other in the league. Foles is two inches taller at 6-foot-6 and about fifteen pounds heavier at 243 pounds. And the most important aspect of all, is that he plays from the pocket. When he scored on his turtle-like run in the Tampa Bay game on Sunday, he made sure all his receiving options were exhausted before reluctantly taking off despite the miserable performance of his offensive line. Brady is clearly the force behind the Patriots success both offensively and defensively all due to the fact that he is the ultimate leader on that team and in that stadium. No more apparent as when he, who is also slow afoot, ran for a first down. He slid, popped up and emphatically gestured the first down signal that ignited the fans in Foxboro. Brady, like Peyton Manning are the quintessential competitors that are driven to win and hate to lose. A quality not seen in an Eagles’ quarterback in recent memory. On Sunday, Foles completed an Eagles’ rookie-record 32 passes for 381 yards although he was sacked six times. He showed courage standing in the pocket and leading the 23-21 win to end the Eagles’ eight-game losing streak as time expired. Foles displayed the poise of a veteran in the game-winning drive converting two fourth downs with no timeouts and not getting rattled after almost throwing a game-ending interception on the way to the winning score. Reid claims Foles requested the one yard TD pass-play to Jeremy Maclin after spiking the ball with 0:02 left, which if true, says a lot of the confidence Foles has in his ability, in only his fourth NFL start. After the play, Foles, interestingly, did not over-celebrate like the rest of his teammates. He kept his head while everyone else around him was losing theirs, including Reid and his coaches, as if they had just won the Super Bowl. Which to me, is a good sign that he can lead by example. But ultimately Foles should get as much film of Tom Brady as he can and somehow talk to him as much as possible. Because if nothing else, he shouldn’t ” want to be like Mike”…. but like Tom!
