FOOTBALL NEVER DIES IN PHILLY!!

Posted January 18, 2009 on htkrocks's Blog:

The Eagles lost a heartbreaker today and were so close to stealing the city back from the Phillies. Unlike the Giants fans we don't need to go breaking car windows. The Eagles acheived a lot this year after playing so poorly at one point our biggest debate was who should go more, Andy Reid or Donovan McNabb. We all know both will be back next year, so lets throw that discussion out the door. I want to hear from the true Eagles fans their thoughts about the offseason needs and possibilites. Let's keep our heads up!!!! E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!

  • Yo Homey....McChunky is GONEEEE......but Andy"Bag of Dinuts" will be back. Maybe Kolb will hit receivers in stride....come on man.....its over.....Donny needs to go to Chicago
  • Please change you're name AS;AP. A true fan of football, not just the Eagles, knows that you don't just change QBs and expect to win. Especially one who threw for almost 400 yds and 3 TDs. The lone INT was a dropped bullet that bounced in the air.
  • E-A-G-L-E-S. My head is hanging high. I still love my boys!!!!!!
  • Yo rocks....10 years....no ring....balls in the dirt...behind receivers......what is it about this guy that makes you fell he will win the big one.......did you see the st louis champ game....the tama champ game ...the panther champ game...the patriots super bowl game...the cardinals champ game......lesser QBs have won the big game.....mcnabb if a highly skilled football player but he will never win the big one........the facts speak for themselves.....how many chances do you need....
  • Have you seen his receivers?? The fact is he's won more games than any QB in Eagles history!! The fact that you keep bringing up CHAMP games shows he keeps getting chances to win. If you know of a better AVAILABLE QB, please let me know. And, please don't say Kevin Kolb. ...............
  • Next year Eagles are this year seahawks .Truth hurts.
  • FOOTBALL NEVER DIES IN PHILLY YOU GOT THAT DAMN RIGHT!!!!
  • McNabb needs a big play receiver, whether thats Boldin, Housh, or heres a name: Dez Bryant dude is an animal, also our D needs yet another playmaker but this time in the front 7, im thinking Terrell Suggs or Julius Peppers, our secondary looks ok, but this time i would start Lito because he is a better corner than Sheldon Brown, but otherwise nothing else but a RB
  • Lito would've jumped and at least challenged Fitz on that fade TD pass, we'll see if they try and start him next year. Lito and/or Sheldon may be trade bait. I think they need a taller starting quality CB on the other side of Asante.
  • lito will be gone next year. Move Sheldon to safety to replace Dawkins. need a tall cover DB. defense is still maturing and will get bigger. Good things ahead. They need home field.
  • so glad to see a positive article with positive fans....mcnabb and reid are welcomed back in my eyes...both give this team the best chance to win....the reason i think they didnt play lito is because they didnt want him to get hurt...i think hes gonna be traded this offseason whether its for picks or a player i just dont see any other reason he would be sitting behind joselio hanson...mcnabb needs a big target i know desean jackson is great but he needs someone to compliment him...or someone that he will compliment very nicely...anquan boldin could want to return to arizona because of their success or want to go to another team to try to bring them to success and tj houshmandzadeh is a free agent i think hes the perfect fit...he just shuts up and plays...of course id rather have the younger boldin but also wouldnt mind tj...both would make this team alot better....i had somethin hit me during this game and over the course of the year that is gocong just isnt good enough to start...akeem jordan and bradley are good players but we need another guy who can play that olb position...ill say we pick up terrell suggs give him a nice deal hes only 26 years old and was franchised this year....julius peppers is out there and he would be nice but id rather have suggs and a WR first before lookin at peppers....of course our offensive tackles are 35 and we need to replace them..my idea would be franchise tra thomas since hes the LT and let runyan go...try to trade up and draft someone who can come in and immediately start (like shawn andrews did) we also need a replacement safety no matter if dawkins stays or goes...id love him back but if he wants to retire then i respect him and i wouldnt mind his decision...nnamdi asomugha is available but i doubt we go after him because we just got samuel and we have other needs but that would be rediculous...just a thought not really thinkin we even consider him...but who knows whats gona happen? im eager to see this teams offseason and draft i just want them to pull the trigger and get that play making receiver so mcnabb can prove that he is a big time qb (even though i already know he is)
  • As far as the tackles go, I would try and keep Runyan and go after Jordan Gross to replace Thomas.
  • McNabb sucks, but the coaching is even worse than the execution.Plays look like they are drawn up in the dirt sometimes. All 3 aspects of this team don't co-operate.It starts with coaching.
  • I am proud of my Boys... They did the unexpected and made the playoffs... they won games to get us til today's game and for that I am proud. Many thought our season was over after the Tie and the benching. Nothing to hold your heads down for Eagles... May God Bless you and your families. This has been a heck of a ride and I just glad I was able to share it all the way. Fly Eagles Fly... Donovan, please shake the haters off and continue to be the positive role model you are and keep your head high... Your Superbowl will come trust and believe in that....
  • i cant be any happier with the way they fought back in the second half, maybe that's why this loss hurts so much, cause they were so close to pulling it off. I'm always going to say Mcnabb needs to come back, i wasn't sre about Reid cause he just seems unwilling to change anything, but maybe one more year. But we HAVE to get Mcnabb another big play reciever. D-Jax can be that guy its only his rookie year, he'll get better
  • i agree, if we give it to kolb let me be the first to welcome you back to the rich kotite era!
  • Tj Hozmanzada ( i now I spelled it wrong). Terrell Suggs, Franchice buck, sign Bdawk and runyan. Git rid of Glew, reggie clown, and william thomas(holds and has stupid penaltys too often).Draft high on T or get Jorden Gross, draft BIG RB,and some mor O and D line. Maybe a tall CB,or a really speeedy one. Also trade Lito.Send LJ Smith and give it to Brent,(LJ cant catch a cold, but Tony Gonz. from KC wants out so...) ;) All wont happen but the more that does the better next year will be.
  • Can't change yesterday. Looks to me that 09 is going to be a rebuilding year. We need a pair of younger tackles on the O-line as well as a guard. A BIG BAD RB could go a long way towards solving the red zone curse. DJax is OK but he is small and at a disadvantage against bigger db's A big, fast wide receiver would go a long way to taking some of the pressure off of DJax. Good as he is, and that is very good, DMac isn't getting any younger. He has some good years left barring another major injury. A creditable backup - eventual successor needs to be found and brought along. I don't see Kolb fitting that description. Celek has stepped up like a champ, the TE position isn't as critical as it was with LJ but it would be good to have another good one to rotate with Celek. Those guys take a beating between fighting off defensive ends and catching the ball in traffic. Maybe a new beast of a corner back that can put the hurt on WRs like Burris and Fitzgerald rather than have them catch the ball and just brush off the defense on the way to the house. I cant see getting all that done in one year but if we don't start we could have a bunch of dry years in the future.
  • I believe all of those things can be addressed in the off season. Like Jeff Lurie said "Pedal 2 DA Metal!!!!"
  • good writeup htkrocks!!! you are 1st class
  • Thank you sir.....gotta keep it positive.
  • I think we need to go out and get a big bodied wide out...Anquan Boldin would look great in Midnight Green lol...they definitely need to get an outside linebacker because in the championship game against arizona our outside linebackers got exposed..Terrell Suggs would be a great fit as well..i also think we need to go get a big, physical corner opposite of asante...because a physical wide out like fitz will eat up smaller dbs like we have..i think we just need a few key signings and we will be back in 09 baby!!!!!
  • I wanted Boldin until I saw him freaking out in the middle of the game yesterday. Now I fear he will turn into a TO.
  • yea i saw that too, and it worries me a little as well...but i think it was just a heat of the moment thing..he is a competitor and wanted to be out on the field during that game winning drive and he was not...i just hope that he doesnt turn into a TO cuz i think he is an incredible talent and it would be a shame if he lets his ego get in the way of the team
  • I think that spat was blown out of proportion. I want guys who want to be on the field at crunch time.
  • The cardinals haven't treated Boldin right....he would do fine in Philly
  • Who do we lose from the current squad to make room (in all meanings of the word) for the players we need?
  • G-Lewis; Buckhaulter(Too old); Tra Thomas; Lito(maybe Sheldon instead); Darren Howard; Lorenzo Booker; Sean Considine and possibly others.
  • This is the day that football has died in Philly. The stars are getting older and the quarterback was terrible yesterday for half the game. This was the year you were supposed to win the superbowl. The defense collapsed yesterday. You were outcoached and if the refs didn't blow the kickoff call that game would have been over in the first half. The Eagles will never get back to the NFC championship for a long time.
  • As they say in sanskrit suukama dee kei
  • lol phillyogre i wrote something up for guys like romorules who spend ther time more worried about us than there own team http://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/EAGLES_FANS_I_KNOW_IT_HURTS_BUT_ATLEAST_WE_KNOW_DALLAS_SUCKS/477307#view_comments
  • Gee winna, don't be so subtle - what did you really mean ......

    ROFL!
  • Next Eagles are this years Seahawks. Sorry guys but yall really do suck at laeast yall have Rocky
  • Seahawks really though? do you even follow football? oh lemme guess a new id created today? DING DING DING wow I was right...
  • don't worry about him winna he is a cowboys fan
  • It's funny how people love to intervene out of nowhere when the Eagles are a topic. Get off my damn post if you have nothing intellectual.
  • Ok.. Its been a day and I am finally over yesterday. If you look at the season overall, I think it was a successful one. Being that close as many times as we have been makes it tough not to go farther, but thats in the past now. I think if we could have had 1 more quarter, we would have pulled it out.

Next season, we need to address the offensive tackles, obviously. Getting Andrews back will really help and yes, we really need a quality reciever next year. Hopefully Reid will "get it" and pick up a real fullback to open some running room and either sign Buck and actually USE him or pick up a big back to get that 3rd and 1 yardage that cost us so many games this season!! The "D" is young and the LB's will improve, so I'm not so much worrried there. I think Dawk will be back and they WILL make another run next year.
    WE ARE NOT REBUILDING!!

...and for the haters, Mcnabb is our only chance to win a Super Bowl......deal with it!!
  • to htk rocks and all u dumb philly fans welcome to ur rebuilding years to come the era is over. get over it .
  • i haven't really seen anyone say this, but was it me or did Asante Samuel disappear that game?
  • Yep I saw it. That's what happens when you tend to play off a Pro Bowler who runs quick slants.
