Former Giants RB Derrick Ward Arrested on Alleged Robbery Charges

Former NFL running back Derrick Ward, who spent the 2004-2008 seasons with the New York Giants, was arrested on Monday in Los Angeles for multiple alleged robberies, according to TMZ.

Ward, now 43 years old, allegedly used "force and fear to get money from the stores," according to TMZ's report. He remained in police custody as of Tuesday, his bail having been set at $250,000.

Ward was an eight-year NFL player with stints with the Buccaneers and Texans. While with the Giants, he was part of a powerhouse backfield consisting of Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw and was nicknamed “Earth, Wind, and Fire.”

Ward had his best season as a pro in 2008 while rushing for 1,025 yards on 182 carries with two touchdowns with the Giants. He was part of the Giants Super Bowl XLII championship team the year prior, even though he missed the historic game against the then-undefeated Patriots due to a broken leg suffered in Week 13.

Ward, originally a seventh-round pick by the Jets in 2004, ended his career having played in 93 games with 2,628 rushing yards on 551 attempts and 12 touchdowns.
