TEAMS: New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals
Arun MoraceIn the wake of New York Jets’ quarterback Mark Sanchez finally being benched after a long stretch of poor play in favor of third stringer Greg McElroy, who led the Jets to victory over the Arizona Cardinals this past Sunday, its been speculated that this could be the end for Sanchez in New York. However, some have come to Sanchez’ defense. Former Jets receiver Braylon Edwards, who played with Sanchez during the 2009 and 2010 seasons, had this to say: Don’t blame Sanchez. I played there. Blame the idiots calling shots. Mark is a beast and will probe it when given a proper chance — Braylon Edwards (@OfficialBraylon) December 4, 2012 What Mr. Edwards is saying is that Sanchez would have had a better chance to succeed if he’d been given better weapons in the passing game. Perhaps, but its not like the Jets’ front office did nothing to help either. They did, after all, trade for Edwards, and Santonio Holmes, as well as sign Plaxico Burress during the course of Sanchez’ tenure in New York. Sanchez still never managed to evolve beyond a quarterback who scored as much as he turned the ball over. Once the running game disappeared in New York, so did the victories. Sanchez showed he couldn’t carry a team by himself, but that’s just what you need a quarterback to do: shoulder the load and lead the team to victory. For his career, Sanchez has a 67:64 touchdown-to-interception ratio, a 72.9 passer rating, and a 55.2 completion percentage. Sorry Braylon. Those aren’t “beast” numbers. Those are the numbers of someone who deserves to be on the bench…which is exactly where Sanchez was when the Jets beat Arizona last Sunday. Sports-Kings - The Kings of Sports Lists
