The Pittsburgh Steelers signed former Michigan State quarterback Brian Hoyer formerly of the New England Patriots. Despite being invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, Hoyer was not selected in the 2009 NFL Draft. He signed immediately after the draft with the New England Patriots. Ben Roethlisberger (ribs, shoulder) and Byron Leftwich (ribs) are out. That leaves Charlie Batch as the starter. Hoyer was with the Patriots in the preseason, where he lost a camp battle to Ryan Mallett. The former undrafted free agent out of Michigan State has attempted 43 passes in the NFL.
