Matt Leinart’s NFL career didn’t work out, so he’s looking at a new one in real estate.

Leinart is now a licensed real estate agent in California after passing the exam late April. His mother’s death last January inspired him to do something new and constructive, and this is what he’s added to his portfolio, in addition to his work as a TV analyst.

With a growing sports scene in the city, Leinart thinks he can be a valuable resource for athletes who are looking for a place to live.

“Between the Rams, Chargers and the new soccer stadium coming in, I’d love to be an ambassador for athletes looking to buy a home, since I’ve been in the same shoes,” Leinart told the Los Angeles Times’ Jack Flemming.

Leinart compared selling houses to playing sports, and even compared learning the trade to learning an NFL playbook.

“In both worlds, you get out what you put in,” Leinart said. “In real estate, if you’re hustling and maintaining a good work ethic, you’ll get deals.

“To an outsider, understanding an NFL playbook is like trying to read Japanese. After spending so much time with it, though, I can read it like the back of my hand,” Leinart said. “Learning the intricacies of the real estate industry is the same.”

Leinart is keeping his broadcasting job at FOX Sports, and he’s not sure if he’ll ever sell houses on his own full-time. As it stands, he’s learning and enjoying the ride. If he wants a real challenge, he should try to sell the Manziel rental house.
