We’ve seen it done many times before; a college coach brings in one of his former quarterbacks who are familiar with his system. Now, it doesn’t always work, but Chip Kelly is giving it the old college try.
Dennis Dixon currently on the Baltimore Ravens practice squad, is expected to join Kelly in Philadelphia by next week. It’s also a sign Kelly is moving on from Michael Vick, leaving the veteran ready to hit free agency.
Dixon ran Kelly’s offense at Oregon until a knee injury ended his season. Dixson is the only NFL quarterback that has the knowledge of the coach’s system inside-out and wouldn’t be starting from scratch.
"I'm in awe right now," Dixon had said, via Geoff Mosher of csnphilly.com, after Kelly’s hiring became official. "I'm at a loss for words. I'm sure it was a business decision, a family decision, but it's really hard to leave the Ducks. I think he is ready for that next step.”
