Former Carolina Panthers wide receiver Keary Colbert is planning a comeback. Colbert resigned from his position as tight ends graduate assistant at the University of Southern California early this week to prepare for a potential 2011 NFL comeback, provided there is a 2011 season. Colbert was the Panthers’ second-round pick in 2004 and last played in the NFL in 2008 with the Detroit Lions. “After spending a year working with the tight ends at USC as a graduate assistant, it ignited my passion and fire to compete at the highest level,” Colbert said in a statement. “I’ve been training and getting myself physically prepared to make a comeback in the NFL. I plan to be a great veteran addition to any team’s wide receiver corps.” Colbert is only 28 years old, just one year older than the Seattle Seahawks’ Mike Williams. Many speculate he could land in Seattle with his former college coach, Pete Carroll.
