Former Patriots safety Patrick Chung arrested, charged with assault and battery

Former New England Patriots safety and three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Chung was arrested Monday and charged with assault and battery, per Jeff Howe of The Athletic.

The 34-year-old Chung officially retired earlier this year, having played his last NFL game in 2019. During the summer of 2019, Chung was indicted on a charge of possession of cocaine, before the charge was conditionally dismissed in January of last year.

Chung was selected 34th overall by the Patriots in 2009 and spent two stints in New England, first from 2009 through 2012 and then from 2014 through 2019. Chung played the 2013 campaign with the Philadelphia Eagles.

In 153 career regular-season games (122 starts), Chung recorded 778 tackles and 11 interceptions, including one return for a touchdown. Over 23 career playoff games (20 starts), Chung posted 104 tackles and four passes defended.

Chung was a starting safety for the Patriots during their championship runs to Super Bowl XLIX over the Seattle Seahawks, Super Bowl LI over the Atlanta Falcons and Super Bowl LIII over the Los Angeles Rams.
