The hits just keep coming this week for embattled New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. First, Jets head coach Rex Ryan announced that he will start backup Greg McElroy in place of the struggling Sanchez on Sunday. Then came reports that Sanchez was receiving death threats on Twitter amid poor performance on the field. And now, former teammate Kris Jenkins, who played with Sanchez from 2008-10, has told Showtime's "Inside the NFL" that the 26-year old signal caller is more concerned with his looks than trying to improve at his profession. From Star-Ledger:"(Sanchez) had a stellar offensive line," Jenkins said on the show Wednesday night. "He had running backs that kept the pressure off of him. He had the opportunity to grow and develop. What Sanchez has to take responsibility for is during the time that he could have gotten better he wanted to sit back. He wanted to pose for magazines, worry about his haircuts and do all of that stuff.""I'm just saying, from what I saw him do, it was a lot better then what it is now. But he coasted. They coddled him. That was what was going on. This is a man's profession. You have to man up at some point in time and take care."Jenkins also called out Sanchez in November during a Jets postgame show which he was quoted in saying who hoped there was "a point where I wished some defensive end would have knocked him (Sanchez) out of a game so they wouldn't have had the choice but to put somebody else in."Sanchez is completing just 55% (229-418) of his passes this season and has throw for 2,678 yards with 13 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.
