Former Vikings QB Fran Tarkenton passed his way to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, so he knows a thing or two about how an offense should be ran, and what a passing game should consist of. With his old team struggling in the era of pass-happy teams, he is embarrassed by the product the Vikings are putting on the field for the fans. Former Vikings QB Frank Tarkenton is none too happy with the Vikings passing attack (Image via BleacherReport.com) “I’m watching the passing game, and I’m embarrassed,” Tarkenton said via TwinCities.com “Because we’re not trying anything. We’re playing with a kindergarten-type passing attack. We’ve got to take a risk. We’ve got a chance to make the playoffs. If we cannot throw the ball, if we’re going to throw for 90 yards and be defensive in the passing game, we’re not going to make the playoffs. Playoffs? And we’re not going to do anything if we got there.” Early on in the year, the passing game wasn’t half bad – Christian Ponder had the help of Percy Harvin and the two seemed to be clicking. They started off strong and things came to a screeching halt in the passing game, thus leading them to rely on bruising RB Adrian Peterson As Peterson has his sights set on breaking Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing yards record, he’s also breaking another record along the way. He’ll be the first RB in NFL History to average more yards per run than his QB averages per pass, and that has Tarkenton irritated. Tarkenton isn’t completely mad at the Vikings though, he praised the run game and called Adrian Peterson the best thing since Jim Brown. Peterson’s story is a good one, and it has him in the running for the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year, which he says is “in the bag”. As far as the Vikings passing game goes, they need to address the receiver position in the offseason, as Percy Harvin is oft-injured and Jerome Simpson didn’t quite work out the way they had hoped.   Follow us on Twitter @DownandDistance Down and Distance Editor-in-Chief – Justin Arbogast @NFLGuy_SK The post Former Vikes’ QB Embarrassed with Minnesota Passing Game appeared first on DOWN & DISTANCE.
