Former Vikings QB Josh Dobbs explains how Jaren Hall impressed in rookie season
Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

Former BYU quarterback Jaren Hall saw his first NFL action for the Minnesota Vikings in 2023 after he was originally drafted by the team in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft at pick No. 164 overall.

The quarterback who drew comparisons to the likes of his fellow BYU alumni Zach Wilson saw action in three games and finished out the season 13-for-20 passing for 168 yards without a touchdown, but with 1 interception over three games.

Hall had both his good and bad moments, but caught the eye of some quarterbacks across the league, including former Tennessee Vols and Vikings quarterback Josh Dobbs.

"I've got a lot of respect for Jaren (Hall) and the way that he prepares too," Dobbs said in a recent appearance on The Adam Schefter Podcast. "I know he had an interesting shakeout at the end of the season, but I hope he gets another shot to go out there and play because the dude works his butt off and prepares like he's a three-year vet."

In some ways, the work ethic and preparation of Hall rubbed off on Dobbs, the far more experience player.

"That's why I was impressed and it really helped me play well when I got there for the Atlanta game," Dobbs said. "Obviously, it was Jaren's show, and he was starting, and obviously, he had the injury at the end of the first quarter, but I mean, he was running the show in practice and, so watching that, I was like, 'okay, this is what I gotta do.'"

Dobbs spent just one season with the Vikings, recently departed to the San Francisco 49ers after Minnesota finished the season with a 7-10 overall record.

It will be interesting to watch what the future holds for Hall, who wasn't expected to take the field in his first year at all, thrust into action by an injury to Kirk Cousins.
