Frank Okam released as Bucs acquire Eagles practice squad lineman

Bucs defensive tackle Frank Okam was released today as the Bucs moved to add Eagles practice squad defensive end Daniel Te'o-Nesheim to the Tampa Bay active roster. A third-round pick of the Eagles in 2010, Te'o-Nesheim played in six games with one start as a rookie. He had five tackles and sack. Te'o-Nesheim failed to make the active roster this fall with the Eagles having added defensive help through free agency. The release of Okam is a mild surprise given the fact coach Raheem Morris seemed to hold him in high regard. But Okam had been slowed by a calf injury the past three games, sidelined for each contest. It's also arguable whether he was as effective as he was during his emergence in the final weeks of 2010, when he filled in nicely for the injured Gerald McCoy. It appears the Bucs did not have a need for a fifth defensive tackle, especially when defensive ends like Da'Quan Bowers and Tim Crowder are capable of playing tackle on passing downs. It's no...
