Future free agents could spell trouble for Eagles

He'd like to stay in Philadelphia and given the emphasis Philadelphia puts into the team’s offensive line, the former second-round pick will almost certainly receive an extension this year. He’s due $1.8M in 2024 but should expect to see a deal similar to the four-year $80M contract signed by Colts guard Quenton Nelson in 2022.

K Jake Elliott

With an average annual salary of $3.8M, Elliott is currently the 10th-highest-paid kicker in football. The 29-year-old fan favorite was the NFL’s fifth-most accurate kicker last season and could sign a team-friendly extension in 2024.

LB Haason Reddick

The fact that the team gave Reddick permission to seek a trade doesn’t necessarily mean he’s leaving. They did the same for cornerback Darius Slay last offseason before signing him to a two-year, $42M contract extension.

Reddick is scheduled to be the NFL’s 14th-highest-paid edge-rusher with a $14.2M base salary for 2024, slightly below market value, but with bonuses carrying almost a $22M cap hit. He’s led the team in sacks since coming over from the Panthers in 2022, but he also turns 30 in September. 

Philadelphia can save $16M against the cap with a post-June 1 trade, but if other teams don’t show interest, the Eagles may well offer Reddick an extension with a modest raise for 2024.

WR DeVonta Smith

He may be the team’s No. 2 receiver next to A.J. Brown but no pass-catcher performed better in big games than Smith. The former Heisman winner had 148 yards in a 32-9 playoff loss to the Buccaneers last season after making seven catches for 100 yards in Super Bowl LVII.

With 3,178 yards, 19 touchdowns and only one game missed in the past three years, Smith is due No. 1 money. Whether or not he gets it in Philly remains to be seen.

DE Josh Sweat

Sweat ended the 2022 regular season on a tear with 8.5 sacks in his last eight games. He started 2023 with 6.5 sacks in his first nine games but had none in his last seven games. 

He’ll count $9M against the cap next season and with Reddick’s contract up in the air, Sweat needs to play well in 2024. If Sweat can find his 2022 form under new DC Vic Fangio, he could see an extension worth upwards of $20M per year.
