Hall of Fame running back Gale Sayers has filed a suit against the National Football League, along with helmet maker Riddell, claiming that neither did their due diligence to prevent head-related injuries that led to brain damage. The former Chicago Bears star claims he has experienced headaches, memory loss, and other negative effects from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, according to the suit. The suit claims Sayers played with concussions because the NFL never warned him doing so could cause brain damage. The five-count lawsuit also names Riddell as a defendant, claiming the helmet maker did not provide adequate safety instructions or information about which models provide the best protection. The suit comes a mere month after the NFL reached a whopping $765 million settlement with a group of former players for brain injuries sustained during their playing careers. Via The Big Lead
