BY DAN BEGNOCHEAfter being brought back down to Earth last week at the hands of the San Fransisco 49ers, the New England Patriots (10-4) head into Jacksonville this weekend, where a win has been been pretty easy to come by.The two-win Jaguars have struggled against the division as well as on the scoreboard, and they will now face a Patriots offense that's put up more than 500 points already this season. New England will be looking to gain some ground in the AFC standings, as it currently sits third behind Denver and Houston in the hunt for home field advantage in the playoffs. (photo: Mark Kortum, Flickr)The talented Mr. Ridley. Running back Stevan Ridley is quietly putting together a season for the Patriots' record books. He is up over 1,100 yards for the season, currently 11th on the team's all-time list. Two more strong games could put him the top five, and a game against Jacksonville is a good place to start. The Jags are currently touting the league's worst rush...

Acrobatic Lloyd key part of Patriots passing game

The New England Patriots needed a deep threat so they signed Brandon Lloyd. They ended up with an acrobat. Lloyd has made many airborne, twisting catches in his first season with the Patriots and is closing in on his career-high for receptions. With two games left, he has 67, just 10 short of the 77 he had in his best pro season in 2010 with the Denver Broncos. In last Sunday...

Jaguars activate linebacker Daryl Smith

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have activated linebacker Daryl Smith from injured reserve and placed safety Dwight Lowery on IR with a foot injury. Smith likely will start Sunday's game against New England. Smith missed the first 14 games of the season because of a groin injury. He was placed on IR on Oct. 25, with the designation to return. He returned...

Tebow to the Jaguars “a virtual certainty” says ESPN's Chris Mortensen

Well, it looks like the New York Jets will send Tim Tebow packing after this season, and the other team that was in the running for his services last season, looks to bring him in, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. So much so that Mortensen has called it “a virtual certainty” that Tebow is a Jaguar next season. He says owner Shad Khan, who wanted Tim last year as...

Patriots survive sleepy effort, sink Jaguars

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Tom Brady overcame two interceptions and three sacks and safety Patrick Chung picked off Chad Henne twice in the final minutes to preserve New England's 23-16 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday at EverBank Field. The game was in doubt until the Patriots held off the Jaguars on two possessions in New England territory in the last four minutes...

Cecil Shorts Suffered Concussion vs. Patriots

Jacksonville wideout Cecil Shorts suffered a concussion Sunday against the Patriots.Fantasy Spin:We doubt Jacksonville would risk reinjuring one of their best players in a meaningless Week 17 game so this is probably the last we'll see of Shorts this season. Assuming he's done for the year, Shorts will finish the 2012 campaign with a career-high 979 yards on 55 catches.

Chad Henne Tops 300 Yards vs. Patriots

Jacksonville quarterback Chad Henne produced an impressive yardage total Sunday against New England (348 yards on 51 attempts) but his three interceptions put a damper on the afternoon.Fantasy Spin:To Henne's credit, not all of the miscues were his fault. One of the picks came on a desperation heave at the end of the game and the Jaguars receiving corps had butter fingers all...

Patriots’ Sloppy Win Over Lowly Jaguars Raises More Red Flags About Postseason Expectations

The Patriots at least had an excuse for last week’s letdown. This week, though? There’s really no good reason for their performance. Tom Brady approached the postgame podium with a piercing look of anger and frustration strewn across his face, as if to let everyone know the displeasure he felt. He was short in his responses and didn’t last more than a few minutes before closing...

Tom Brady Doesn’t Care Who Patriots Play in Playoffs, Focused on Fixing ‘Self-Inflicted Errors’

Tom Brady wasn’t too pleased with the Patriots’ performance after Sunday’s 23-16 win in Jacksonville, and that discontent doesn’t seem to be dissipating. Brady, during his weekly appearance on WEEI’s Dennis and Callahan Morning Show, spoke at length about unnecessary mistakes that have cost the Patriots over the past two weeks. “I think just the self-inflicted errors...

Patriots Defeat Jaguars in Close Game: 5 Things Learned from the Victory

Every time the Patriots play a “Gimme Game”, they almost always seem to struggle, and Sunday in Jacksonville was no different as the Patriots escaped with a slim 23-16 victory over the Jaguars. The game came down to the final play when Patriots Safety, Patrick Chung, made an interception with no time left in the end zone. Had Jaguars Quarterback Chad Henne found a Receiver, the...

Mortenson reports that Tim Tebow is a virtual certainty to wind up in Jacksonville; in hindsight he should have picked the hometown team to begin with

This March, as we all know, Tim Tebow was traded from the Denver Broncos to the New York Jets. There was some ambiguity at the time but  everyone involved in the trade not named Tim suggested that with two teams interested the choice came down to the player's preference. With reports emerging that Tebow will end up in Jacksonville this offseason it's hard not to wonder if...

Report: Tim Tebow will likely be playing for the Jaguars next season

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen via Adam Schefter,  Jets quarterback Tim Tebow will most likely be playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars next season. And @mortreport reports it’s “a virtual certainty” that Tim Tebow will play in 2013 for the Jacksonville Jaguars. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) December 23, 2012 We already know the Jets are going to get rid of Tebow...

Keys To Victory vs. The Jaguars

I want to see the fire from Brady regardless of the opponentEach week there is a new gameplan, a new formula for victory. Each week certain aspects of the game just loom larger than the rest. The idea is not to divine the course of the contest, but to highlight the match-ups and intangibles that I'll have my eye on during the broadcast. 1. A Pissed-Off Brady - I have always thought...
