Houston Texans veteran quarterback Jeff Garcia is doing his best to put himself in Terrell Owens' shoes.

In a matter of speaking, the 41-year-old Garcia knows the situation of his former San Francisco 49ers teammate all too well.

After Owens announced that he's going to play for the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League, Garcia was reminded of his 2010 days with the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League.

"Maybe this is his way of showing he can go back to the grassroots of the game, in a sense," Garcia told NFL.com. "Even though it's a little bit different game, (he can) go back to where you're not really doing it for the money, but doing it for the love of the game, and show that he is still capable physically of playing the game and, most importantly, ready from a maturity standpoint to be that guy who can come in and help a team and help the young guys."

The 38-year-old Owens has accepted an offer from the Wranglers that includes part ownership of the team.

“It’s official. It just went down," Owens said in a video posting on his Twitter account. "I’m headed back to Texas. IFL here I come. Allen Texas here I come.”

Drew Pearson, the general manager of the team, confirmed that Owens will be with the team as a player-owner.

Last month, the Wranglers said they offered Owens a package that could be worth up to $500,000 for the 2012 season, which gets underway in February. The majority of IFL players earn $225 per game plus a bonus for wins.

Owens sat out the entire NFL season while rehabbing from offseason knee surgery. He attempted to make a comeback but no team made an offer.

The controversial wideout last played in the NFL with Cincinnati in 2010, hauling in 72 receptions for 983 yards and nine touchdowns.

He ranks second in NFL history with 15,934 yards and 153 touchdowns.
