ARLINGTON – One of Jason Garrett’s best moves in the Cowboys’ 20-19 win over the Dolphins on Thursday was calling on Dez Bryant to return a punt late in the game. In his only special-teams appearance of the game, the second-year player notched a 20-yard return to the Dallas 36-yard line with 3 minutes left. The Cowboys then made the most of their best field position of the second half, marching 54 yards in 10 plays for Dan Bailey’s winning 28-yard field goal as time expired. The Cowboys entered the game averaging just 8.3 yards per punt return to rank 25th in the league. “We’re looking for spots (to give Bryant the ball),” Garrett said after the game. “You know we like to have different guys available. We used Felix (Jones) as our kick returner (against the Dolphins). Those guys are playmaking-type guys who certainly have a significant role on our offense. But when you get the ball in their hands that’s a good thing, and I thought Dez did a really nice job handling that.”

Jones praises Bryant in Cowboys' important win

ARLINGTON -- Jerry Jones joked after Thursday's 20-19 victory over the Dolphins that he needs to talk to Jason Garrett about getting "bigger wins." Jones is looking for 30-point victories to be exact. The Cowboys' owner and general manger could crack jokes, it was a good Thanksgiving for his team, which extended its winning streak to four games. But there were...

Cheerleader: Witten not that tough

Cowboys cheerleader Melissa Kellerman was run into by Jason Witten on Thanksgiving, but she wasn't hurt and says Witten isn't that tough.

Cowboys use helping of 'guts' to deliver win

How different is this Jason Garrett-coached Dallas Cowboys team from teams that have preceded it? Perhaps, as the Cowboys have dragged themselves to win in two very "lose-able" scenarios these last 5 days, we have had some light shed on that interrogative. There are certainly many similarities to the Wade Phillips' teams that have come before it. Mistakes are a bit...

Blue Friday

Jason Garrett and the Cowboys do their best to avoid looking at the big picture too often, but here they sit after Thanksgiving, leaders of the NFC East and appearing more hardened than in years past.

Garrett recalls Lett’s Thanksgiving Day blunder in snow against Dolphins

IRVING – Thanks to Snickers, Leon Lett is cashing in on his blunder that cost the Cowboys a loss to the Dolphins in the 1993 Thanksgiving Day game. The candy bar company recently teamed with NFL Films to create a fun documentary about Lett’s error. “It’s still kind of tough, but we had a great time shooting the video,” Lett told Dallas’ CBS affiliate.  “It’s the...

No comparison weather-wise to Cowboys-Dolphins holiday game played 18 years ago

ARLINGTON – The opposing team is the same, but the weather is quite different. When the Cowboys lost 16-14 to the Dolphins in the  Thanksgiving Day game made memorable mainly by Leon Lett’s shocking blunder, Texas Stadium was covered with snow, a fact Jason Garrett brought up first when asked this week about his memories of the game. “I remember talking to (Dolphins quarterback...

Why the Miami Dolphins Will Defeat the Dallas Cowboys

Garrett will have to out coach Sparano in this one As a Cowboys fan I never tire of the Thanksgiving Day tradition. Dallas has taken part in playing on Thanksgiving since 1966, six years after they became a franchise. In that time Dallas has amassed the best record, .640, on Thanksgiving for any team that has played more than 10 games. Entering this game Dallas is on a three game...

Who actually coaches the Dallas Cowboys?

I was under the impression that Jason Garrett was the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, but I must be mistaken. If you watch any broadcast of the Dallas Cowboys games on television the only person you ever see on the sideline television shots is defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. Why? Is it the slim physique? The flowing locks? The F-Bombs? I don’t know of another team...

Garrett Looking To Capitalize On Jones-Murray Combo

Felix Jones carried the ball five times in his return to the Cowboys’ lineup last Sunday, a 27-24 overtime win over the Redskins. He managed 18 yards on these carries, and another four on a pass. Meanwhile DeMarco Murray, who earned the lion’s share of the workload with 601 yards in the four games for which Jones was absent, went for 73 on 25 carries. Head coach Jason Garrett...

Hall says other players have told him he’s a great player

After Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys, which was capped by Dallas receiver Dez Bryant beating Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall for a gain that preceded the game-winning field goal, Hall said he’s so bad that the team should cut him. Hall now says that he has heard from a laundry list of NFL greats regarding his…
