When Jaguars General Manager Gene Smith took control of the Jaguars roster after a disappointing 2008 season he had a vision for the future of the franchise.
This new direction became apparent to Jaguars fans as they saw many of the “character issue” guys and mistakes of the Shack Harris era sent packing because they did not fit the identity of the new look Jaguars. As we soon found out, most were not worthy of being on any NFL roster (Matt Jones, Reggie Williams, Jerry Porter).
What happened next is the reason that in his second year in power Gene Smith has assembled a roster that is competing for a division crown.
The 2009 NFL Draft Class brought in by the Jaguars has the potential to be the greatest in the teams short history, and is why this team has as bright a future as any team in the NFL.
