Looks like the Mark Sanchez era has officially come to an end in with the New York Jets. It’s been announced that rookie Geno Smith will be the starting QB for the Jets first game of the 2013 season against the Tampa Pay Buccaneers on Sunday. This will be the first time the Jets have started a rookie at the quarterback position since 2009 when Mark Sanchez took over the role. Smith didn’t exactly light it up in camp, but the Jets have needed a change at that position for a couple of seasons. The move also comes as a result of the shoulder injury Sanchez suffered in a pre-season game against the Giants, when Rex Ryan put Sanchez back in the game in the fourth quarter. Who would have thought Geno would go from being embarrassed in the green room at the draft in April to the starting role. I wonder if Geno is going to throw up The Roc? Sanchez’s salary of $8.25 million makes him the highest paid back up QB in the NFL. Countdown until Sanchez is released.   source

New York Jets Enter 2013 Season With Big Problems

The New York Jets really have their hands full heading into the upcoming 2013 NFL regular season. It’s not really a question of whether head coach Rex Ryan will be fired, but when.  The Jets entered the 2013 NFL Draft needing to find an immediate starter in the secondary, improve in the trenches on both sides of the ball and try to land a guy who could lead the team and compete...

GM John Idzik praises Geno Smith's resiliency

After an up and down preseason, rookie signal-caller Geno Smith was handed the starting job in light of Mark Sanchez's shoulder injury. Find out what the Jets' GM had to say about his young gunslinger's never-say-die attitude.

New York Jets announce rookie QB Geno Smith starter Week One

In a move that shouldn’t shock the world, the New York Jets have announced rookie Geno Smith will get the starting nod over veteran Mark Sanchez in week one as they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Smith has been dealing with an ankle injury and the team moved to sign former Green Bay Packers QB Graham Harrell shortly after the rookie suffered his injury. Harrell was released and...

Jets announce Geno Smith to start opener

The Jets did what they had to do this week and what they probably needed to do all along. The team announced that rookie quarterback Geno Smith would start this week which was kind of obvious given the condition of Mark Sanchez’s shoulder — unless Brady Quinn was going to make a late run at the job. The anticlimactic nature of the announcement doesn’t hide the fact this is...

Even The Son Of God HATES The Jets & Here Is The Shirt To Prove It

Things are going from bad to worse for the New York Jets. Fireman Ed quit last season. The former “Sanchise” Mark Sanchez is getting pushed to early retirement/IR by managment. And now the son of G-O-D officially HATES the J-E-T-S. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tim Tebow had JC o n speed dial to punish his former former employer. Bet your bottom dollar Timmy is wearing his ...

EJ Manuel and Geno Smith Named Starters

With only one day left until the beginning of the NFL season, teams are putting the finishing touches on their starting lineups. EJ Manuel of the Buffalo Bills and Geno Smith of the New York Jets were both named starting quarterbacks. Manuel and Smith were the first two quarterbacks taken in the 2013 NFL Draft. The both of them were put in very similar situations. They both had...

Darrelle Revis confused by Jets rookie QB's study habits

TAMPA, Fla. -- Darrelle Revis wants Geno Smith to know that it might be a wise idea to study him. The four-time Pro Bowl cornerback will make his return to MetLife Stadium on Sunday as part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Smith, the New York Jets rookie quarterback, seems to have taken a loose approach to this fact. When asked recently whether he had watched old Jets tape of Revis...

Jets say QB competition is 'ongoing'

Geno Smith may be the Jets starting quarterback against Darrelle Revis and the Bucs but there is no guarantee he’ll be starting anything beyond that. The Jets unleashed their triple threat Wednesday -- Rex Ryan GM John Idzik and owner Woody Johnson -- and from every angle they made it clear that the competition is continuing into the regular season. “We’ll always put the best...

ets Owner Woody Johnson Implies Injury was Mark Sanchez Fault

To say the New York Jets are a mess is an insult to the word mess. Jets Owner Woody Johnson implied that Mark Sanchez was to blame for his shoulder injury: “I don’t have any regrets,” Johnson said, via the NY Daily News. “He’s an experienced guy. I wish he hadn’t gotten hurt, but you got to protect yourself, too. Rex Ryan (who needs to protect his own job) didn’t...

Injuries make predicting an NFL season impossible

The injury bug has already hit a number of teams hard in preseason action. The Buffalo Bills, for example, were hoping to roll out a premier, high-octane offense to kick off the 2013 campaign, but instead they may be rolling out an undrafted rookie quarterback to run their offense against the New England Patriots. They’re not the only team to be hit hard by injuries, especially...
