The NFL Draft is tomorrow, and there are few players that have received more media coverage, love, hate, and scrutiny than WVU quarterback Geno Smith. It seems that Smith is finally speaking out against the so-called draft “experts”, as evidenced by a tweet slamming any doubters. Just want to thank all those so called “experts” who say I can’t be an NFL QB. Thursday will be a special day but the work has only begun — Eugene Geno Smith (@GenoSmith_12) April 23, 2013   This year’s NFL draft crop of quarterbacks have been criticized as being sub-par, especially after last year saw three rookie quarterbacks exceeded expectations and led their teams to the playoffs. Smith has been under the microscope, as most first-round prospects are but some of the criticism has been stinging and at times has seemed downright nasty. Profootballweekly.com’s Nolan Nawrocki said of Smith: ” (He’s) A cross between Akili Smith and Aaron Brooks, Smith is a gimmick, overhyped product of the system lacking the football savvy, work habits and focus to cement a starting job and could drain energy from a QB room. Will be overdrafted and struggle to produce against NFL defensive complexities.” This isn’t the first time Nawrocki has publicly berated a high-profile rookie quarterback, either. He also famously called out Panthers QB Cam Newton saying among other things that he has a “fake smile” and a “me first” attitude. Whether or not these facts are right are not have yet to be seen. Smith seems to be coming into the draft motivated to prove any doubters wrong. He will more than likely be a first round selection and will have a chance to prove silence his doubters sooner rather than later. On Wednesday’s “NFL AM,” Smith talked about the criticism and how it fuels him. “Everyone hears all that talk … about us not having a quarterback class that can live up to last year’s quarterback class and as a competitor I take that very personal. I want to thank them for continuing to fueling that fire and allowing that chip on my shoulder to grow,” Smith said on NFL Network.   What do you think? Is Geno Smith’s shot at draft “experts” justified? Will he prove his doubters wrong come September?
