Being sacked won't sting Geno Smith nearly as much as the beating he has taken by the media since he was drafted by the New York Jets. The quarterback was criticized for saying the 2013 Jets would make the playoffs, which seems highly improbable for a franchise in rebuilding mode. There were reports Smith was prepared to leave draft festivities in New York City last month after he wasn't chosen on the opening day. Smith stayed -- a decision he and his family claimed was always the plan, even with the disappointment of not being a first-round selection. Smith fired his agents shortly after the draft, triggering another round of stories about his motives. He was knocked for the disconnected way he allegedly conducted himself during pre-draft team interviews, which may have contributed to his slide into the second round. The word "diva" was even being tossed around about a player who had received positive reviews for his leadership skills at West Virginia. Smith ...

Geno Smith was scolded for playoff proclamation

Geno Smith has been a quick study when it comes to learning how to handle the intense media presence that envelopes the New York Jets. Smith provided a shining example of how not to deal with the media during the week preceding the 2013 NFL draft. So much so that his mouth and the fingers that typed some ill-advised Tweets may have cost him first-round money.  On Sunday,...

Smith 'in trouble' for playoff berth talk

Incoming rookie quarterback Geno Smith reported that he was "in trouble" with Jets brass for guaranteeing the team would make the playoffs.

Geno Smith The “preferred candidate” To Start For The Jets

Rich Cimini of ESPN New York writes that Geno Smith is the “preferred candidate” to win the Jets starting quarterback job. Cimini adds that Smith will need to prove capable of running the team’s offense in order to stave off Mark Sanchez. It’s no secret that Smith is the preferred option over Sanchez, but Cimini mentions that starting Geno earlier on could allow him...

111-Day New York Jets Warning – Underrated Jeremy Kerley

Here at Turn On The Jets, we decided to take a page out of Robert Mays book over at Grantland (a polite way of saying rip his article idea off) by counting down the 115 days until the New York Jets kick off, with a daily reason to get excited about their return. Mays has the whole NFL to work with, we only have the Goddamn Jets…now there is a challenge, step your game up Mays...

The Jets franchise is a disaster right now and the fans will suffer for it this season. NFL predictions 1.0.

The bottom line is the Jets are one of the worst run franchises in the league.  They were carrying six quarterbacks following the draft.  There is no legitimate strategy for carrying that many.  Add to that, they lost two of the better known back-ups for nothing in return.   This team has needs at QB, WR, RB, OL, DL and DB.  They tried to address some of them in the draft...

Turn On The Jets 12 Pack – All Geno Smith Edition

The Turn On The Jets 12 Pack is back, with an edition focusing solely on New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith.  1. My pre-draft opinions of Geno Smith are documented here and here. I thought he was strong value at #39 and was happy the Jets didn’t use one of their first round picks on him or sacrifice any picks to move up for him in the 2nd round. Prior to the draft I wrote this...

WR Zach Rogers Spotlight: Mobile, Great Hands

Zach Rogers is an UDFA (Undrafted Free Agent) wide receiver signee, coming out of the University of Tennessee. Rogers landed onto the Jets squad after the signing of many other UDFA's. Scouts have praised Rogers for his play at Tennessee, some even expected him to get drafted. Although Zach Rogers wasn't a big time breakout player at UT, he was arguably the most consistent...

Geno Smith looks to shed 'Diva' label

New York Jets rookie QB Geno Smith has had, shall we say, some missteps from the time he was waiting in the green room of April's draft to about right now. But for him, it's time to sit down and talk candidly and intelligently to the media, and show them that he's not what everyone is saying he is - cellphone-obsessed prima donna who thinks he's better than he really...

Jets “Really Wanted” Brian Hoyer

Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland reports that the New York Jets “really wanted” to sign QB Brian Hoyer once he became available and before he ultimately joined the Browns. With David Garrard surprising retirement announcement, the Jets had an obvious need at quarterback and still do. The Browns would ultimately sign Hoyer to a two-year deal that included some guaranteed money...

Willie Colon expects Jets to oust Mike Goodson

The New York Jets have yet to make a move regarding running back Mike Goodson, who was recently arrested on weapons and drug charges. One of Goodson's new teammates -- and no, not an anonymous one -- told the NY Daily News Saturday that Goodson won't be a Jet for long. "It's one of the things where it's zero-tolerance with stuff like that," offensive lineman...

Plaxico Burress: Mark Sanchez Will Become a Good Quarterback in the NFL

Mark Sanchez has some unlikely detractors around the NFL (see: Steve Smith), but also at least one seemingly unlikely supporter. Plaxico Burress and Mark Sanchez didn’t exactly light it up in their lone season together with the New York Jets, but Plaxico Burress is still a supporter of the Jets quarterback. Mark Sanchez needs to pull everything together if he is going to save his...

The Jets Sign A Rookie Class To Prevent Another Butt Fumble

After starting the season with a 48-28 statement win against the Buffalo Bills in 2012, the New York Jets finished the season with a 6-10 record, and the longest running Not Top 10 play in ESPN History. Here is the Jets rookie class to hopefully prevent a rerun season from the most dramatic team in the league.......Or for now anyways, who knows what Rex Ryan will do before the season...

Jets may pick starting QB before training camp

With David Garrard now out of the New York Jets' quarterback struggle, and that's exactly the appropriate word for their situation, the team's starting quarterback options are essentially down to incumbent Mark Sanchez or rookie Geno Smith. Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets may pick their starting quarterback before training camp. Offensive...
