New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz will have a new deal sooner rather than later according to the New York Daily News.
Cruz said during a radio interview that his agent and the team have agreed on the structure of a new contract.
“From what I hear, they’ve just agreed on the structure right now,” Cruz said on WFAN. “And that’s all I’m at liberty to say.
“Hopefully this leads to the right track and we’ll get it done sooner than later… I’m happy so far, so I can just relax and play some football.”
The 25-year-old Cruz who is making $540,000 this season, is coming off a season in which he put up 1,536 receiving yards.
The Giants could allow Cruz to become a restricted free agent, and go through the whole franchise tag and tender offers situation, but that would only put their relationship with Cruz in a bad spot.
Cruz is the real deal and should be paid accordingly.
Cruz for his part loves New York, and just wants a new deal.
“I want to just get it done now and like I said, not have it be a distraction in the offseason where I’m not showing up to minicamp and things like that,” Cruz said. “I don’t want that to become an issue. So I just want to get it done early, as early as possible, and just put it behind.”
“I just love it here,” Cruz said. “It’s home, the people have embraced me. I just love this place so much. I don’t want to go anywhere, I don’t want to play for any other organization at this point in my life. I want to be a New York Giant for a very long time.”
