Victor Cruz and the New York Giants appear to be very close to signing a deal that will keep the NFL’s top slot receiver in Blue. Due to make just $540k this season, the Giants are trying to lock up Cruz past next year. If they do not get a deal done, Cruz would become a restricted free agent. In an interview with WFAN 660 in New York, Cruz told Mike Francesa “From what I hear, they’ve just agreed on the structure right now…and that’s all I’m at liberty to say.” Cruz has become Eli Manning safety blanket. Prior to last season, Giant fans were livid when the team let free agent Steve Smith go-and ultimately sign with the rival Eagles. As we now know, it was the correct decision as Smith still is not the same player and Cruz has blossomed into an elite receiver. Cruz set a franchise record with 1,536 receiving yards last year. He has 52 receptions for 650 yards and seven touchdowns in eight games this season. Cruz went on to tell Francesa “its home, the people have embraced me. I just love this place so much. I don’t want to go anywhere; I don’t want to play for any other organization at this point in my life. I want to be a New York Giant for a very long time.” The only question now is how much the Giants are willing to shell out for Cruz.
