Giants cornerback Amani Oruwariye needed to be taken to a local hospital by ambulance after suffering an injury Wednesday during a special teams drill.
Oruwariye is on the Giants practice squad. Reports from Giants headquarters in East Rutherford, N.J., said that Oruwariye needed immediate assistance. Athletic trainers immobilized the cornerback and placed him on a backboard. He then traveled via ambulance to a hospital.
The Giants signed Oruwariye to a one-year contract before training camp. offseason. He’s appeared in 53 games during his four years in the NFL.
Jordan Raanan, who covers the team for ESPN, shared that Oruwariye “was hurt during a special teams drill. … Was down several minutes and multiple teammates went over to check on him.”

Dan Duggan with The Athletic said that “medical staff was very careful moving him. Did see him moving his left hand as he was carted off.” Another reporter saw the cornerback move both arms.

Oruwariye grew up in Tampa, Fla, but he played collegiately for Penn State. By his senior season, he was an All Big Ten cornerback. The Lions selected him in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
He spent the first four years in Detroit. In his 53 games there. he posted 173 tackles, with nine interceptions, two recovered fumbles, and 24 passes defended. He became an unrestricted free agent this past spring and signed a one-year contract with the Giants.
The team waived him on the cut to 53 players on Aug. 29. But the Giants re-signed him to the practice squad after he cleared waivers.
