The departure of receiver Domenik Hixon who signed with the Carolina Panthers brought a need to replace his production.
The Giants are eyeing Patriots free agent receiver Julian Edelman to replace that production. Edelman is a versatile slot receiver who excels in the short passing game.
He also is an excellent punt returner and plays on all special teams. The knock on Edelman is he is injury prone and can’t seem to stay healthy.
According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, Edelman is having a two day visit with Tom Coughlin and the Giants. Vacchiano writes:
‘The 26-year-old Edelman had dinner with team officials in New York on Wednesday night and will spend time visiting with the Giants on Thursday, according to two sources familiar with his plans.
A dynamic punt returner and talented slot receiver, he played the last four seasons with the New England Patriots, though his season ended early when he broke his right foot in December last year.
