Dan Graziano of ESPN New York takes a look at the Giants’ looming decision regarding CB Prince Amukamara‘s fifth-year option.
According to Graziano, the Giants haven’t made a decision as of now as to whether or not they’ll pick up the team option, but does so would run them $6.898 million, according to Albert Breer.
Graziano mentions that this salary would close to the amount the Giants are paying Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who they signed in free agency this offseason.
Graziano writes that if Amukamara was an unrestricted free agent, it’s unlikely that he could secure this kind of money based on his performance since entering the league.
On top of that, the Giants have brought in even more competition at the cornerback position after they signed Walter Thurmond III and Zack Bowman.
Even so, Graziano could still see them picking up Amukamara’s fifth-year while keeping an open dialogue regarding an extension that would come with more palatable annual salary.
