The New York Giants have placed a first-round tender on restricted free agent WR Victor Cruz. Cruz, 26, will make $2.879 million salary for the upcoming season, but the Giants have maintained that they intend to work out a long-term contract at some point. Cruz is this year’s best restricted free agent, but it appears to be unlikely that anyone will try to pry him loose in the coming weeks. NFL teams are reluctant to part with a first-round pick and leave player with a significant amount of leverage in the negotiations. The Vikings have been tossed out as a team that could pursue him given that they just acquired an additional first-round pick for Percy Harvin. It’s more likely that he stays in New York, but it will be interesting to see if the two sides are able to come to an agreement in the next few months.
