According to Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger, the New York Giants have restructured the contract of linebacker/defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka.
Giants linebacker/defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka signed a simple restructure of his contract last Thursday, converting an already guaranteed $1.5 million portion of his 2013 base salary to a signing bonus. Kiwanuka will not lose any money from the three-year extension he signed last spring, but this change drops his cap number this season by $1 million (from $5.125 million to $4.125 million).
Kiwanuka’s cap number does go up slightly in 2014 (from $6.55 million to $7.07 million) and 2015 (from $6.95 million to $7.45 million) as a result of the restructure.
The Giants have done a nice job of getting further under the salary cap. It looks like they’re now roughly $6 million under.
I don’t expect the Giants to sign any big name free agents, but they’ll look to sign Will Beatty, Martellus Bennett and Victor Cruz to extensions.

Wide receivers have not been an issue for the New York Giants to develop over the last couple of seasons with Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks, Domenik Hixon, Mario Manningham, Ramses Barden, Steve Smith, etc… The Giants would lose a few productive receivers season after season and a new crop would take their place without any hiccups, but this can’t last forever if your wide receivers aren’t dev...
As we continue the Team Needs series for the 2013 NFL Draft, we proceed to the team with the nineteenth overall pick; the New York Giants. It seems ever since Tom Coughlin has been the head coach of this team that their December is either red hot or arctic cold. For the defending champs, it was unfortunately the latter in 2012.
Still, this is a team on the edge of going in a certain...
One of the New York Giants’ top priorities this offseason is making sure they re-sign left tackle Will Beatty.
Mike Garafolo of USA today Sports told Giants fans on Twitter to not worry about Beatty’s future and that he only has some minor things to work out with the Giants.
The Giants restructured Mathias Kiwanuaka’s contract on Monday, which should free up some more cap room...

1. Middle Linebacker
The New York Giants can’t seem to find a capable mike linebacker. Chase Blackburn, Mark Herzlich, Greg Jones and Jacquian Williams have all tried and failed to fill the hole over the past two seasons. Kevin Minter and Alec Ogletree could be options in the first round. Manti Te’o is another possibility.
2. Tight End
Martellus Bennett may be re-signed, but...
The New York Giants have carved out a little bit more salary cap space by re-structuring the contract of defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka.
According to the New York Daily News Kiwanuka was due to make $2.95 million in salary in 2013, but his new salary is $1.45 million. The remaining $1.5 million was converted into a bonus which, for salary cap purposes, will be prorated over the...
